a rex I don't know the name of.....
Daily photo share and chat...
Gorgeous begnias Lina nd Gail, I like the canes too as they do better for me but I lost a whole slew of little ones last winter to powdery mildew, I worked nad worked with it and they were the only plants affected but I finally had to toss the lot of them (about a dozen) because I could not cure it! Frustrating.
Lin I think thos beautiful plants of msbonnie's are sinningias. I think I even see Peridot's Darth Vader sitting to the left of that gorgeous Victorian Print AV she posted. She will have to let us know for sure.
Maybe I should post the pictures of this HD begonia over on the begonia forum and see if they can name it?? All I know is that three weeks ago when I was in Boise Wal Mart had a ton of them for 5.97 and this time when I was down I only found them at HD and they were all wilted and sad looking and they wanted 9.97 and I couldn't bring myself to pay that for a half dead plant!! I should have tried to bargain for half price but I hate doing that!!! LOL My daughter will bargain in a heart beat but not me! I'll take her with me next time...... LOL

Bren,
Those are VERY pretty parrot flowers.
I THINK it's a type of impatiens if I remember correctly.
Although EVERY site I have read says they are easy to grow, I have managed to totally kill 2 parrot impatiens :(
I have one cutting that I took as my second one was biting the dust but it is just sitting there. I'm afraid to even go near it *lol*
I LOVE pictures of them but have put them in the "Hoya Bella" file, never to try again *lol*
Oh Kim, when you were talking about your parrot impatiens I had no idea this is what you meant!! I had no clue that they could possibly be grown as a houseplant.....I just thought somebody got some great pictures in the rain forest with these!!!
~Brenda
The one called Parrot Plant in PF is different:
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/38288/
I really love the colors of the one in Brenda's photo! I wonder if it is an Impatiens of some sort too? I'm going googling!
Here's one called Parrot Flower: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/51590/
It's an Alstormeria. Amazing how many plants will have the same exact common name!
it is past time for my daily nap...........I always use something systemic for bugs..........that way I know that all I have to do is take the proper dose in a gallon of water and don't have to spray and cover every bit of every leaf..................I think I am addicted to both Bayer's Advanced Tree and Shrub and Malthion..................between the two, they seem to kill anything not wanted on my plants....
Having said that, I noticed in a thread that someone suggested using Bayer's in the house on African violets.............i would never do that.........too potent for the inside........but I don't hesitate if I need to .............to use Avid on gessies..
Many people will disagree and say it is overkill and overuse, but what can I say except I am a farm girl.
Oh my gosh..some beautiful pics have been posted since I was last here. I just love looking at everyones pretties : ) I need to keep my pen and pad handy so I make sure and jot some of them down on my ever longer growing list of wishes.Mrsbonnie..just beautiful..all of them..you are one great grower!! : ) Brenda..WOW..I never realized you grew so many different plants and how well you do it too : ) Lin..even on a rainy day your begonias look wonderful : ) Gail..beautiful as always...those begonias are so cool looking.Thats one thing I have no luck with at all.I have managed to keep one called Capricorn alive that snowrose sent me awhile back so I am so proud its still alive and kicking. I need to get a pic of it to show you all...
For now here are my strep bloomers of the day..LOL..courtesy of gessiegails sale..They are awesome Gail..I love them..Thanks : )...
1st is Rhubarb
Aaaaaaaaaaah!
I am so glad VA_Wild_Rose began another "Bloomers" Thread! I am so enjoying looking at all these Lovelies!
she has a name, nancy..............let me go find your list I made (I actually still have a notebook with the orders in them)...............
Ok.......I had gotten streps last summer from the man in Boerne who told me he didn't put names on the ones he grows. So, you and Brenda both got what i call hybrid seedlings and we will never know what they are. (I don't mean all of them but that one purple one). Brenda got several that I gave names to myself (LOL)
I will be stopping by the man's nursery again next week to see what he has in the way of new streps. If I like them, I will get them....name or no name.
Thank you Gail....Name or no name shes still has knockout blooms and pretty is pretty in my book : )
I agree with you Gail and Nancy! It's fine if a plant has a name but I love a lot of Noids. Never met a Beautiful flower I didn't like! LOL.
Beautiful Cindy! Your sunroom looks so warm and cozy :)
Great Job Cindy! You are going to love those Episcia's! I have my very first bloom today on Pink Panther!! It finally opened!
Lovely photo of your sun room! I know all those plants are very happy there! I wish I had more bright windows for plants!
I'm going to hang a couple of rods in front of windows for the winter but need to find some wire hangers or something to be able to hang some heavy baskets with. I used to have a few macrame plant hangers but they went by the wayside years ago. And ... I have lost the art of macrame that I did back in the early/mid 70's! I wouldn't have a clue how to even begin, or the patience! I used to find those wire hangers for the hanging baskets at Home Depot but they don't sell them anymore. I need to figure something out since I have some heavy plants and the plastic hangers just end up breaking!
Great set up you have for wicking .... that sure makes it easier than having so many little reservoir pots.
Keep us posted on how your babies are doing!
Lin---I go to HD or walmart and buy lengths of chain to make hangars. The chains open easy enough with a pliers----
Cindy..all of your plants look so healthy and happy! I love your sunroom..I would give anything for a room like that.Your Ice Folly is a real looker..love the color : ))
Lin..Pink Panther looks *Wonderful* You Should Be Proud : )
SOOO pretty everyone :) Love Pink Panther too :) Congratulations Lin :)
I've been gradually adding beads to my macrame hangers. Using wire to wrap them around the yarn. I'ts a neat cold weather project, & I like the result.
Like that pink panther bloom lin. Thanks everyone. It was fun to have something to show & tell about. Will probably show some windows later.
Does anyone know if Aschyananthus black pagoda lipstick plant sends out new shoots from the base? I have a new plant and wondering if I should cut back the long stems & root them to fill the plant in some more.

Brenda- If it hasn't already been posted- The Begonia you took the pic of ,I think, is called Fire Flush or something like that and yes, it seems to be an especially difficult one. At least for me. But then the rex are difficult for me for some reason!
Diane
Cindy,
Yes, Black Pagoda makes new stems from the base. Don't be afraid to cut that one. Everywhere you cut it, it will branch off and make another "limb". That one is a weed *lol* I have a bunch of cuttings rooting and many more that I need to cut *lol* I can't keep up to her :)
Kim
I really, really would love to know the ID of that Beautiful Begonia with the deep red edges! I googled Fire Flush and found these on the Lyndon Lyons site .... doesn't look like what they show as fire flush.
Oh thankyou Kim, I'm so happy to hear that about the pagoda. I really like that one.
Meant to say, Night beacon is pretty, Ceadernest. Love that deep purple.

Pretty sure the name on the begonia was fire flush. I ordered them last year for the nursery I work for. As a matter of fact I ordered them twice because they sold so fast the first time. But the ones we ended up having for a while didn't do so well at the store. Maybe it was fire flash or fiery something? Ugh! Starting in your 40's seems like takes longer to remember things if at all.
cflower... LOVE your sunroom!
Oh to have one of those for my very own!!!
One day...
One day!
LOL Dianesjungle! Wait until you get to late 50's .... actually it's not going to be too many months before I turn 60 and I have been very forgetful for the past 15 years!!
Just googled some more! I found it at this Euro Catalog site:
http://www.euroamprop.com/catalog/details.cfm?plantID=963&catID=2
Lyndon Lyons: http://lyndonlyon.com/CP%20Gallery%20Rex%20Begonias.html
The one at LL looks totally different color but I guess the lighting could account for that!
Wow! I just think that is the prettiest begonia I've ever seen!
Lin.....that picture at L.L. site doesn't do the Fire Flush begonia justice at all!! Great pic of Pink Panther! She's a beauty!
Diane your ID of the plant as Fire Flush was the same ID that I got over on the begonia forum, thanks!!
HD had a flopped over limp Fire Flush that was a return when I was back in Boise (my daughter talked me into going again yesterday!!) and I thought since it was in a return pile that was in a heap for the garbage that they wouldn't miss a leave or two! :0) Don't know what I'll be able to accomplish with it but I'm putting one into a terrarium today and we'll see??? I think I'd need one of those BIG aquariums set up as a terrarium to grow a full sized one and be able to keep it healthy. LOL
Cindy your plant set up and windows are great, looks like a great place to just sit and relax and enjoy the view!
