Hi,
Any help with ID-ing this plant is greatly appreciated - then I could find out more how to care for it. Thank you so much!

heili,
I believe it is a very young Draceanea 'tricolor'.

Please check out this link from our plant files, keeping in mind that the pictures shown are mature specimens.

As yours grows, it will also develop a "trunk", the lower leaves will naturally fall off at times.
this plant does well in medium to bright light indoors, and shade outdoors. It will not take the cold weather, outdoors. It is a tropical house plant.

It might acclimate to outdoors in a warm climate.

Good luck with your new plant, it looks exceptionally healthy, and very young.

Thank you so much, Sasha! I was thinking myself that maybe it is Draceanea, but was confused exactly because it does not have a "trunk". So if a young plant does not have one yet, then - yes, you might be right. Thank you so much! I'll try to take good care of it. It will be just a houseplant.

Heili

heili, I have a question.

Is there just a single plant in your pot, or are there more that are just not visable in the shot you took of it?

The reason I ask, is that they are usually grown in pots in groups of three's, by the time they are in 6-8" pots.

Just curious.

Hi Sasha,
There are two plants just next to each other. And the pot is tiny. I'm wondering whether I should re-pot it into a bigger pot. However, I just read somewhere that they kind of like small pots...

Heili

You are right.

They do seem to like being potbound. What is the size of the pot they are in?

They're in a 4" pot.

duh. I'm such a dolt. Should have recognized the Colorama brand 4" pot.

I don't generally advocate re-potting in the Fall. Spring is the better time. but, it does look like the soil level is pretty low.

If the roots are matted and going "round and round" the pot, you might need to repot this Fall, or at the very least add some soilless mix to the pot.(regular potting soil)

OK. I might then just add a little extra potting soil. Thanks so much, Sasha!

You're welcome!! I hope you stick around, as this is a wonderful site, with so many nice people who are generous beyond belief with all their knowledge and expertise.

The PlantFiles are an amazing compilation of information, and every area of the country is covered by Regional Forums. I could go on and on, but just urge you to dig a little deeper into the site.

Bye for now.
Sasha
