Would anyone be interested in oak tree acorns? Oaks are host trees for White M Hairstreak, Juvenal's Duskywing, and Horace's Duskywing. In my picture below the first tree is a Pin Oak and the one behind it is a White oak. Some of the white oak acorns are starting to germinate, I can send those in damp sand.

Ha! Never seen those on my plant. I wonder if it is because I prune my bush? Very interesting Donna! I love my bush and it does smell wonderful. But nothing beats my 4 O'Clocks! I walk out on my porch at night and WOWEE! It smells wonderful! :-) I do like fragrant plants/flowers!

Thank you so much for posting those photos Donna! :-)

Yeah Donna, Those are pretty big seeds... Whats the Sctific name for your plant? What I have is not really a true Jas its more of a J. cestrum. Still it is wonderful perfume... I have another Jas that is Sambac which I also love!

I do know I want some of those Donna! Hope I get some in my return pack:-)

Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

My box of seeds will be in today's mail ....but I forgot the zones. I'll post the list w/zones as soon as I find all of them.

P

South Venice, FL(Zone 9b)

I've been working on my labels and will finish packing everything this weekend and send out on Monday!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

You know what .... I forgot to do the zones, too. Post the zones here on this thread with your list of seeds, instead please! :-)

Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

I've ammended my list w/zones host and/or nectar. I've included a wishlist but it not set in tone but I request NO plantains or morning glories.

critter,
do you need chocolate daisy aka (attempt to spell botanical which will probably go horribly wrong)berlandier lyrata? I have some just coming off the plants.

Heh, heh, heh....my neighbors now have no doubt that I'm completely nuts (as if they didn't already think so) Harvesting plantain seeds???

That's why I asked before I did it. They're pretty much a nuisance weed for the 'Lawn Rangers' around here. I figured someone might be able to use them, but others had more than enough.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

I need them Melody. I have managed to kill all I have traded for. I put them in a area that gets watered frequently and in a area that doesn't. None survived

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

My most flourishing patch is in a gravel parking lot over at our business. They were totally without water all summer, they dried and shrivelled. We got rain a few weeks ago and every single one of them burst to life again... go figure...

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Red, thanks for the offer! I did get some seeds last year that were generously shared by the DGer who ID'd my plant as NOT-Chocolate-Daisy (as in, "I'm not sure what you're growing there in that photo, but it's not Chocolate Daisy... however, if you Dmail me, I will send you some real Berlandiera lyrata seeds). I WS'd them and got some nice plants that I'm overwintering in pots.

However, in case of disaster, I would *love* to have some extra seeds. That's a plant that I really want to grow in my garden! Does it really smell like chocolate to you?

I'll be back home this weekend, and so far the cats have resisted making "wildflower mix" out of the seeds on the dining room table, so I should have some seeds to send for this swap!

Georgetown, IN(Zone 6a)

I have learned thru DG, What is weed to one is a treasure to another. (Just like one mans trash....) I am so amazed how things that grow rampant around here, that we have a hard time killing, Grows so differently in another zone, and is actually wanted there.
Do you realize, some seed sites actually have dandilion seeds for sale???

Georgetown, IN(Zone 6a)

PS. I want chocolate Daisys!!!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I think every garden should have Chocolate Daisies *and* not-Chocolate-Daisies. They're both butterfly magnets, with very similar lemon-yellow blooms. Chocolate Daisies are much shorter, and fragrant, so they'd make a nice plant for the front of the border. My taller Helianthus is nice in the middle or toward the back of the bed... :-)

South Venice, FL(Zone 9b)

kelboindy, I grew up in MA, where the pefect lawn police blasted those sunny dandelions with every pesticide known to man, and still they persevered! Now I live in FL, and I've had friends send seed down from New England, as well as bought some. It grows well here in the late fall and through the winter, but rarely survives the summer, and I've never found any self seedlings.
I grow it to add to my salad mixes, it adds a nice bitter bite to the blend and it's really good for you too. My neighbor's dad saw it growing at one point and was flabbergasted.
I'm actually out of seeds at the moment, hoping my current plant will produce a few flowers next spring. Anyone sending dandelion seeds in? Teehee.
Cathy

Georgetown, IN(Zone 6a)

OMG Cathy, come summer I can send you all the seeds you can handle!!! When my DD was little, now 26, she said "Mom, we have the prettiest front yard in the whole neighborhood", I asked her why she thought that, she said, "Nobody else has all those pretty little yellow flowers" I about fell over laughing at that, and soon after bought all the dandilion killer I could get.

South Venice, FL(Zone 9b)

Thta's so funny! Out of the mouths of babes. We had quite a collection of them in our yard too, DD just mowed 'em down every week and us kids of course blew those seedheads everywhere!

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Ok....just went outside with the intention of harvesting a bunch of coral nymph salvia seeds only to find that they're all gone. I think a few windy days we've been having took most of them out. But the plant is blooming its head off so if anyone wants that I will have some later on. I did manage to find pink starlet morning glory and tall pink celosia (hummers loved this). Other things I took seeds from were not really butterfly plants. I hope I have enough for the 10 packets.

Kim

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Oh, and I forgot I also have lots of passiflora incarnata seeds.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

blue_eyes - My passiflora incarnata fruit still is not ripe. Maybe they will be by Thanksgiving weekend when I plan to get all the seeds sent out to everyone. Please send some seeds for the swap if you have room to add them in your envie!

I am going to update in the first post of this thread so everyone will know who I have received seeds from. That way everyone knows where to find the post of updates to check to see if I have received their envies!
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/editpost.php?pid=4133465

I will be tagging and bagging my seeds for the swap this weekend. I was waiting to see what everyone else was sending so that I could add some different seeds to add to the selection. I will start a new thread on October 17th with the list of seeds. At that time, everyone can look over the list and let me know your "wish" list!

What I have gotten so far is amazing! No kidding! We have some very generous seed harvesters among us! :-) The newbies are gonna love this swap! :-)

FYI everybody! Keep in mind when you get your seeds from Becky>...

On the small plant name label I put on the seeds I typed some letter codes:
A and P in red is whether annual or perennial.. Then I put a blue N for Nectar and a Green H for host plant.

examples:
"Candletree-Cassia alata A/P N H" I put A/P both bc in zone 9 and southward, they grow as perennial.. North of zone 9 they grow as an annual.

"Hollyhock-Malva sylvestris - P N H

first letter A/P, A or P in red
second N in blue
third H in green

Some were mainly H and some were mainly N so I just put the one that applies most.

Thought you guys would like me to make that clearer.. lol. When you get your seeds it should make sense.

Debnes, I like your code! I'm fine tuning my labels, maybe I can squeeze in something similiar. Sure makes it easier for us newbies!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks Cathy! I hope it helps everyone,
Here is an example of the labels I cut out little strips for each package

(My Name is on a separate label, of course.)
I used full page label paper with no perfs, Perforations weren't always lining up right..

Sounds great, Deborah!

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

My package is winging it's way south as of this morning! should arrive on Tues. I sent by Priority.

South Venice, FL(Zone 9b)

I just finished packing everyhting into the envelope and will bring it to the post office Monday morning. Yippee!
I put common name, latin name, annual or perennial/zone info, and host/nectar on each envelope, along with my name and DG "stage name." This is my first go-round in a seed swap, so please, if I've missed something or made a mistake on a label, drop me a line so I can improve my labels. I've saved them all in the computer, so I'll be ahead of the game next time!
DH thinks I'm a little loopy, taking such enjoyment from packaging seeds and labeling them, but I find it very relaxing!
