This is Cuphea Melvillia...is anyone familiar with the seeds. Is that the seeds in the picture?
It does well from cuttings, so I never collected the seeds.

Lovely Chris!
I have one one myself! I tried to plant some seeds and they didn't germinate for me. Maybe cuttings are the best way to go on Cuphea. I have 3 different Cupheas. Tiny Mice, Batface, and the Cigar (like your pic). They really get huge!

portiaraylee~ You asked

Quoting:
Butterfly Bush - I collected seeds from a 'Black Knight' Cultivar, you can grow these from seed, right?

I planted seeds for some very early spring this year and they are 3' tall and have been blooming all sumer. Directly sown they germinate well. Just plant several seeds in each site, keep moist, and mark the site well.

Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

I working on my seeds...if everyone around here would leave me the heck alone.

Deb,
I have cuphea "Georgis Scarlet"....maybe I can find some seeds on it.

Great, then I will be sending butterfly bush seeds as well!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Mine are on the way Becky!
Let us know when you post all the lists.

Cincinnati (Anderson, OH(Zone 6a)

Mine are on the way, too! Yay!

South West, LA(Zone 9a)

Mine went out in the mail today!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Looks like I'll be away (family stuff) until the end of the week, so I'm not sure if my seeds will be packed in time for this swap... I'll do my best!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Even if you don't mail them out until Monday, Nov. 12th, they should get to me by the 16th! Just send them as soon as you can!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh critter.. Scoop them off the kitchen table into a big sack anf take em with you, lol!
Hey besides~ I was eyeballing some of the seeds you had. Don't worry about the husky bits either. I'm with you, the finer seed is easier to see when you sprinkle them out in the dirt. Ya just have to sprinkle more out in each planting site.

After this weekend you will have 2 days to pack them and get them in the mail to be there by Friday. I know you will get it in somehow... and you ain't getting out easy. Just think of all the new seeds you will have to share too.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Ok, everything is accounted for, and my post is edited to reflect the varieties and the numbers. My list is complete.

The Plantago major and the Verbena hastata need to dry just a bit more before the seeds will easily clean. Everything else is bagged and tagged.

Mine will be in the mail by the end of the week.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Oh, you know I'll do my best! I'm just not sure at this point when I'll be back home... but it should be by the weekend. The seeds I mentioned are pretty well dechaffed, just sitting out to finish drying, so it's just a matter of printing out more labels and bagging them. I'm sure I'll get something in the mail, at any rate! I was hoping to get out for zinnia seed this week also, but they may end up just dropping their seeds where they are, LOL.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Sounds good Melody and critterologist! I'll be looking for your seeds to arrive! :-) :-)

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

I am holding off until Monday. I got Sparkleberry tree seeds. May still not be dry so will put in napkin in bulk package so you and open them up Becky to air until you ship to whom ever wants them. Will include some empty seed packs for them

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

I will do that, Donna! Thanks for including the Sparkleberry seeds for this swap! You are sending some awesome seeds! Thanks for sending all the extra packets, too! We are going to dub you a new name ... the "Seed Whisperer"! LOL!

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

forgot about all the seed from some cuttings I took from my friends Groundsel Tree(spelling). NABA lecture I was just at, at the ABADS Convention said it was one of the best trees for attracting Butterflies so i have seed for it as well.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

I have an unknown purple aster that I can include if folks want some. I'm guessing that it's a type of Symphyotrichum. Great bloomer and lovely fall color that lasts all the way through a light frost.

What do ya'll think?

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Absolutely, Melody! If no one else wants them, I'll take them. I love my asters!!! :-)

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I've got an unknown perennial Helianthus that I intend to include... it's a butterfly magnet, lovely yellow blooms all summer long, and it even blooms the first year from wintersown seed. I don't think I should leave it out just because I haven't been able to figure out which species it is for sure... I got the seed as "Chocolate Daisy" (but it's definitely not), so it's also known to folks I've shared it with as Not-Chocolate-Daisy. :-)

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Bagging some up!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Sounds good y'all!!! :-) Tag em and bag em!

And if anyone has some good hummer nectar plant seeds, throw those in too! I'd love some Turk's Cap or Flame Acanthus seeds. (Hint, hint!) I did a trade for some of the FA, but the person on the other end of the trade never came through on their end. :-(

Is there another name for the Sparkleberry tree? I cant find it in plant files.

What is a kind of seed that I can buy now that most people would want? Even if it is parsley what would be some that you could always use?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I would take the Asters also. The parsley, fennel, and dill seed would be great for the BST next year.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Chris - Nasturtium seeds! I lost my plants this year and am sooo bummed! They are a host plant for the White butterflies! The moths love the blooms too! :-)

Also Coneflower, Zinnia, Dill seeds are usually available and would be good plants to have for the butterflies! :-)

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Lots of herbs are butterfly magnets. Try any of the mints, catnip, salvia, chamomile.

Rudbeckias (black eyed susans) are available commercially and there are lots of pretty cultivars.

Many of these are easily purchased.
