I am getting ready to remove my annuals from my containers/ pots and wonder if anyone has ideas for good cold weather replacements for the winter season.... I have used pansies and cabbage before. Any other ideas?
winter plants and flowers for containers
Evergreen plants are always good. How big are the pots? A small cotoneaster and ivy would be nice. Or a short conifer or cypress. A small Japanese maple would be pretty, too. Just be sure to add plenty of mulch.
The pots are not extremely big. The biggest are about 18" tall and 18" diameter. and 15" tall with a 16" diameter. (I don't know how many "gallons" that translates to)
I hadn't thought of something like cotoneaster or pine, although I do like to stick evergreen boughs and holly in around my pansies at Christmastime....they stay pretty fresh for a long time. Thanks for the new ideas.
Pansies winter well. At least they do in the ground. Is that where yours are? I have a JM that I'm going to put in front for the winter. They look so beautiful with snow on them.
