Sylvain - so good to hear your "voice" again! I feel the same way about the sea...can't be away for too long or I start twitching and staring at others like your goldfish! Still have lots to do before I really get back into the swing of DG, but at least this is a start!
UNDERWATER GARDENS, NO. 7
Glad to see you back, Shari!
John, take care of yourself and Katie! Let us know how you fair thru the Tropical Storm!!!! Sure sorry you are having to go thru something like that this time of year!!!!!!!!! Stay safe!!!!!!!!!
What???!!! Another storm??? John, maybe you need to reconsider your habitat? Hope you are all okay, why didn't you say anything about it in your e-mail? No pix to post at the mo...will get back into the swing in a bit.
T.D. Olga downgrades over night...yeah, lots of needed rain in the forecast today thru tomorrow....end of off topic posts on this matter....
John, don't think I have ever asked. Are these type fish caught for consumption? They remind me of perch but I can't really tell how big they are.
Glad Olga is giving rain and not tearing things up.
Christi
We are so glad Olga is dissipating somewhat. John, I remember being in the middle of a school of tangs in Aruba but they were dark brown. I had seen yellow tangs and blue tangs but brown ones were new to me. They almost looked velvetty.
Sylvain.
Lovely photo as usual John. hope you stay dry!
Thanks guys...Sunny right now...raining down the road...ahhhhhhhhh, island living!
Sylvain, the dark brown ones you saw could have been a species of doctorfish...very similar in size and shape to tangs....
John, love the tangs..glad to see that this U/W thread is still going. Slowing down a bit, which is only to be expected, but still going nonetheless. Hopefully I will have some new pix in a couple of days.
WooHoo!
Oh John, Katie, so glad that it got downgraded! Thank Goodness! Love your school of fish!
I am desperate. Accidently wandered onto a link this morning while reading the internet news. Best I can do.

Great link! What are you desperate for my friend? News of John and Katie? Underwater pix? Speak up!
All of the above.
Sure wish I could. Thank you. I'm having withdrawal pains. You know how it is with addictions. Is the inside of this creature its "guts"? How does it eat?
Inside this cushion is a small transparent fish that lives no where else. The star itself feeds on the detritus on the rocks and sand of the coral head or beach floor. It sucks the food into its mouth (on the bottom). The fish inside feeds on the same food, and its waste also feed the star. Interesting critter.
Sure is. What we could call a two-fer.
I have so much catching up to do! I can't believe how many new threads have popped up in Tropical Gardening in just a month! Whew! Reading all those, and all the writer's forum posts are sure keeping me busy! How are you doing my friend? (I am listening to my new Iz cd's! Thank you again!).
Gorgeous picture of the sta cushion. At the risk of gong off-topic, I would say that I asked for new Iz CDs for Christmas. I only have 4 of them and they've been playing in the car, in the house and even in my Sony Reader electronic book. I've been a good boy. Maybe Santa will bring me what I asked for. Who knows.
Take care, all.
Sylvain.
I have 3 of IZ. How many are there?
I asked for the same also! Neat picture Shari!
Shari, is the "planter" in that picture part of the coral or is it something else that they are anchored to? It looks like a stone egg with cactus planted in it!
Again and again I thank you for my IZ book. Lots of pictures and information about the M. Brothers. You are such a sweetheart. Had I known you didn't have a bunch of his cd's. Well, there you go.
Whose dinnertime is it? The coral or the fish? I don't always know who the predator is.
Hi Zany! Nope, the "planter is just a broken piece of older dead coral...the new corals attach themselves to anything, and old coral is the perfect medium for raising a coral family. The bacteria and tiny, plankton like fish that hang around these corals are what all these fish eat. When they see divers, they expect us to move things around - thus stirring up the "soup", which is why they all gather around the coralheads when we are down there. The trick is to remember to put it back exactly as it was if we do move anything.
Christi - we cross posted...I think you will be answered by my last post.
A lot of the IZ cd's are re-issues and/or duplicates. Not to worry sweetheart, I have exactly what I want to have, now. I am soooo glad you like the book. I was afraid that you might already have it. After your reaction, I am so very glad that I saw it.
If you look to the right side, about 1/4 up the frame, there are two frogs sitting on a rock.
cloud gazing again...
Sheesh! They DO look like frogs! Good eyes my friend!!
That was a priceless reaction.
I really love the pepper..I've been using it in everything.
I'd give quite alot to be playing in the underwater garden right now!
Ya know what? I had this great supplier for the pepper before I left, and we were keeping plenty in stock. Something has happened though, and we haven't received any in two months! I'm trying to find out what is going on, but it may be a while before I can send you any more! Too strange. But isn't it great stuff?
Yes..it's flavorful, and delicious in everything.
I think this bag will last me a good 6 months though. I'm going to dump alot of it in my next pot of chicken soup
It is most wonderful in soups where you can really breath in the aroma and let it dangle on your toungue. Enjoy, my friend!
Thanks ..I will...I make killer chicken soup too...
I'll stir
uuuummmmhhhhh. gooood!
Was that Campbell's??
oh no...campbells can only dream their soup is as good
