Wonderful progression dragonfly.

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Mrs_Ed, These were the last Cone flowers to bloom--one plant--and they are still blooming. How I don't know because it got down to 28 one night. BEV

oh my word! I'd love to know what kind they are! Mine haven't bloomed for months! Perhaps I should try to deadhead. Wait, didn't I have this discussion with Nanny already?

I have quite a few blooming plants....and yet, there are butterflies taking turns nectaring these days. These Queens have good nectar spots right now!

Wow, you sure had a full house Linda! Those shots are amazing.

It's strange...I feel like I'm hosting a party but I don't quite have enough food for the guests! Cold front is coming in tonight...question is, will most of the butterflies leave?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I don't know how cool you will be getting tonight, but we had a lot of bfs early today and still a few this afternoon as the sun went down. They were having problems hanging on to the plants because of the wind, but it wasn't that cold until dark. I think it will drop to 45 or so tonight, and since there were still some around late today, I bet they will still be here. They roost in the trees where the sun will warm them up early. They fly down nectar for a minute or two and back up to bask in the sun when they need to warm again.
I guess what I would bet is, you will still have a lot in your area from middle of TX; and it will not get any colder where you are as it is up here.

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

I think it might be down to 42° tonight and maybe 37° tomorrow night. Gets a bit chilly up here in the hills, you know.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Burrrrr!! It is cold here this morning with the wind. I wasn't thinking about your elevation down there! It may blow all of the bfs over you on to the south. Stay warm!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

High of 37º here today!!

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

This was taken a few years ago and the picture quality isn't the greatest, but I'll bet someone will enjoy it.

Kelli, You hold the world record. Wonderful pic. BEV

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

Someday, I want to see that. Where did you take the photo Kelli?

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

That was at Pismo Beach, CA. It's a great thing to see.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Do the roost there every year? That is fantastic, but it would be much more enjoyable in person!

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

Yes, every year

DeLand/Deleon Spring, FL(Zone 8b)

I think these are Sulfers (?) I'm new to this and didn't take the time to go looking for id.
They love the shrimp plants. I took these about a week ago...when it was warm...very chilly in central florida today!!

Shelia...Thank You!!
They look like Clouded Sulfers to me. I have a pic of a single I'll post on the Daily butterflies thread

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

Does it count as a double if it's not the same butterfly? Skipper and Gulf Frit.

I'm guessing these are some sort of Skippers from photos above/before.

I never thought of trying to get groupings of butterflies. I was usually trying to get them up-close so I could learn identification. When my New England Asters bloom they are usually filled with butterflies.

Some of the 22,000 monarchs at Pismo Beach, CA right now. (The technical quality of the photo is not so great but the subject matter is astounding.)
