The other day I saw two of them mating....and wouldn't you know it....my rechargeable camera was too low on power!
Doubles Anyone? Show us your pics of multiple butterflies.
LindaTX8 - Doah!!! I hate when that happens.
Butterflies are like watching the pot boil. It'll never happen when you're ready for it.
But if you put your camera down and begin working, then the doubles start happening left and right.
Onalee - thanks for sharing your CLASSIC double.
Great butterflies on a great butterfly plant.
Thanks everyone for sharing.
LindaTX8 a similar thing happend to me this past week too LOL I had a Gulf frit and some kind of skipper on my lantana and went to grab my camera only to find it needed to be recharged! Figures!!
Onalee- Great pic!! I just won a mexican torch sunflower at a butterfly club meeting I attended last month. It certainly is a butterfly magnet! I have a monarch that visits daily and she goes back and forth from that sunflower and the milkweed. And if she isn't on it the GF's are.
Lisa
Lisa, the hummingbirds love the Torch, too - so keep an eye out for them!
Onalee
Very nice pic, Mrs_Ed~~
Just wondering what flower they are nectaring on? Is that a milkweed?
Thanks t.
yep, common milk weed on a country road.
Thanks, I thought it was that but didn't think you would have it in your garden...now it makes sense!
Actually, I do have it in my garden too! However, I was just driving, turned a corner and hopped out of the truck and snapped off a few.
I find it so funny though that out of all the milkweed plants in the area, these two HAD to be on this plant.
NICE
Great sites Bob. At first looking at the thumbnail I couldn't figure out what the first pic was. Then realized it just needs turned. I got to see the longwings group and roosting together at the Tropical Butterfly Exhibit this April as a volunteer. I wish I had just one or two regular visitors in my yard!
oooo, I want some of those pretty blue ones!!!!
Nice! Lyn....please Dmail me the info on that if it was a B&B type property. DH and I now that retired will be headed toward Atlanta to see family next year for sure.
Beautiful picture! I think they might be Tiger Swallowtails. The one on the right is a Tiger and there is a black form of the female Tiger. Lovely!
Wow, Meredith, those are gorgeous. They sure are beautifully camouflaged against those flowers.
Thank you Elphaba : ) I thought they were really cute, the male was harassing the female and she was buzzing her body at him. : )
You know, the male doesn't look like the same species (species?). I had a pipevine male try to mate with a polydamas female. She flapped him away too and finally disappeared under some foliage to get away from him. Sometimes those boys are just too excitable!
Lol, Yes in the end they went their seperate ways. I think the female was slightly irritated with him : ) The one with more white is an Aphrodite and the other a Great Spangled.
Wonderful clear shots jmorth!!
I believe they are the White Lined Sphinx.

I just love hummingbird moths. I should go look for some right now! Beautiful picture jmorth.
Beclu, what excitement you had! I'd love to see a Red-spotted Purple, and hairstreaks are hard to get.
Nice photo - they look like a mirror image.
