Doubles Anyone? Show us your pics of multiple butterflies.

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

The other day I saw two of them mating....and wouldn't you know it....my rechargeable camera was too low on power!

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

Here are 2 Gulf Frits on my favorite butterfly nector plant - Torch Mexican Sunflower.

LindaTX8 - Doah!!! I hate when that happens.
Butterflies are like watching the pot boil. It'll never happen when you're ready for it.
But if you put your camera down and begin working, then the doubles start happening left and right.

Onalee - thanks for sharing your CLASSIC double.
Great butterflies on a great butterfly plant.

Thanks everyone for sharing.

Spring Hill, FL(Zone 9b)

LindaTX8 a similar thing happend to me this past week too LOL I had a Gulf frit and some kind of skipper on my lantana and went to grab my camera only to find it needed to be recharged! Figures!!

Onalee- Great pic!! I just won a mexican torch sunflower at a butterfly club meeting I attended last month. It certainly is a butterfly magnet! I have a monarch that visits daily and she goes back and forth from that sunflower and the milkweed. And if she isn't on it the GF's are.

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

Lisa, the hummingbirds love the Torch, too - so keep an eye out for them!

Very nice pic, Mrs_Ed~~

Just wondering what flower they are nectaring on? Is that a milkweed?

Thanks t.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

yep, common milk weed on a country road.

Cincinnati (Anderson, OH(Zone 6a)

Thanks, I thought it was that but didn't think you would have it in your garden...now it makes sense!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Actually, I do have it in my garden too! However, I was just driving, turned a corner and hopped out of the truck and snapped off a few.

I find it so funny though that out of all the milkweed plants in the area, these two HAD to be on this plant.

Weston, FL

I know this is not a very good picture, but here are the 2 butterflies I found together this morning. A Gulf Fritillary and a Ruddy Daggerwing

Here are some of the Zebra Longwings that are roosting in my garden.

Here are two zebra longwings mating. The male waits on the crysalis until the female emerges and mates while she is drying her wings.

NICE

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Great sites Bob. At first looking at the thumbnail I couldn't figure out what the first pic was. Then realized it just needs turned. I got to see the longwings group and roosting together at the Tropical Butterfly Exhibit this April as a volunteer. I wish I had just one or two regular visitors in my yard!

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

WOW!!! These photos are just amazing! Clearly, I need to beef up my butterfly garden! This is a photo from my vacation that I've shared before, but frankly, I'm lucky to get one butterfly in a picture! Great shots everyone!

oooo, I want some of those pretty blue ones!!!!

not butterflies but there's two of them...

Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

Look closely. It's a mirror image of a pipevine swallowtail. Our vacation rental house in western NC was landscaped for butterflies and hummingbirds. I spent more time taking pics of butterflies than anything else.

Nice! Lyn....please Dmail me the info on that if it was a B&B type property. DH and I now that retired will be headed toward Atlanta to see family next year for sure.

Dacula, GA(Zone 7b)

Great thread. Took this pic last week while trying to figure out my new camera. 2 Eastern swallowtails I think.

Beautiful picture! I think they might be Tiger Swallowtails. The one on the right is a Tiger and there is a black form of the female Tiger. Lovely!

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

Wow, Meredith, those are gorgeous. They sure are beautifully camouflaged against those flowers.

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Thank you Elphaba : ) I thought they were really cute, the male was harassing the female and she was buzzing her body at him. : )

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

You know, the male doesn't look like the same species (species?). I had a pipevine male try to mate with a polydamas female. She flapped him away too and finally disappeared under some foliage to get away from him. Sometimes those boys are just too excitable!

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Lol, Yes in the end they went their seperate ways. I think the female was slightly irritated with him : ) The one with more white is an Aphrodite and the other a Great Spangled.

Dacula, GA(Zone 7b)

3 gulf frits, a red-spotted purple and a hairstreak on the HB feeder. This honeycomb butterfly bush sure has a lot of action.

I just love hummingbird moths. I should go look for some right now! Beautiful picture jmorth.

Beclu, what excitement you had! I'd love to see a Red-spotted Purple, and hairstreaks are hard to get.

Cypress, TX(Zone 9a)

Here's my first try and butterfly pics. A couple monarchs on our milk weed (that was just planted this year)
