Golden rain tree? Have seeds, need info

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi, I have some golden raintree seeds, but have no idea where or how to plant them, how big they get, when to plant. In other words, I know nothing
I hope someone will take pity on me. The seeds were sent to me, so I've never even seen one
Thanks, Lorraine

You didn't mention which species you had and there are a couple of them, here are the ones that are in Plant Files. I can't help you on how to plant them, but this should give you the info you need on how big they get, etc. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/adv_search.php?searcher%5Bcommon%5D=&searcher%5Bfamily%5D=&searcher%5Bgenus%5D=koelreuteria&searcher%5Bspecies%5D=&searcher%5Bcultivar%5D=&searcher%5Bhybridizer%5D=&search_prefs%5Bblank_cultivar%5D=&search_prefs%5Bsort_by%5D=rating&images_prefs=both&Search=Search

You plant the seeds in pots or pans of good loamy soil and keep the pots in a cool area till the seeds germinate, then prick them off into individual small pots, then when the pots are filled with roots, you plant out into a sheltered area of garden and have them there for the first 2 or 3 years when you can then plant the very young trees out into the planting area you choose in the garden, they can eventually grow to anything from 10ft to 18/20 feet and the spread will be about the same, this is a good time to germinate tree seeds as the weather a cool enough for that or wait till spring to do it in a cool area of the garden, Autumn is best time though. hope this helps, by the way that info is for the Koelreuteria, and they originate from around East Asia, the young tree only has one or two branches till it gets more mature and then the bushy head of the tree forms, they are lovely colourful trees and you will enjoy them. good luck, WeeNel.

Okay, so since it's still not cold here yet, so the nights are cold and the days are about 67 or 70. So, can I plant the seeds in the container and place under the house until it's time to put them in small pots. And then do take them inside until spring?
When you say good loamy soil, are you talking potting soil or just good compost?

IF THE RAIN TREE IS THE SAME I AM LOOKING AT, WITH LARGE PINK FLOWERS THIS TIME OF YEAR HERE IN WEST CENTRAL FLORIDA I AM LOOKING AT A TREE NOW THAT IS AT LEAST 40 TO 50 FEET TALL, THE BLOSSOMS TURN TAN COLOR LATER ON.

Either you're looking at the seedpods (which are very showy and decorative, and are pink on some cultivars) or you're looking at a different tree. Koelreuteria blooms earlier in the year, but it has pretty seedpods this time of year.
