Hi! Everybody!!
I was wondering if someone knew of a way to plant California Native Plants indoors or if they have to be started directly in the ground.
I have about fifty seeds of solidago californica (Golden Rod) and 100 seeds of Erogonium crocatum (Buckwheat). The problem is that I only want one plant of the Goldenrod and two or three plants of the Buckwheat.
Thanks,
Chuck
Starting California Natives from seed
I don't see why you couldn't start them indoors--you might want to do some research and find out if any of them don't like to be transplanted, if that's the case then they would be better off started directly in the ground, but most of them should be fine.
I'd definitely start a bunch more seeds than the actual number of plants you want--so many things can happen. Some won't germinate, others might germinate but then end up dying from damping off, etc. And if you wind up with more than you want, you can always trade the extras or take them to a Roundup or something.
Thanks, ecrane3,
I really appreciate the help that you have given me today.
Chuck
