A Distinct Sound

St. Louis County, MO(Zone 5a)

This is a combination of sounds, but I love when an orchestra is tuning up, such a racket!

Wilton, CA(Zone 9b)

cathy4, a racket that some how comes together to make magic. And speaking about smoke alarm cooking; once one of the boys came in and asked "is dinner ready" the other boy responded "no, the smoke alarm hasn't gone off yet".
The sound in the car late at night, drolls you to sleep.

lewiston, ID(Zone 6a)

Wonderful, relaxing sound, that. Cats pawing the outside of the bathroom door.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

The chorus of crickets on a starry night as the background music to the baritone call of a bullfrog.

The subtle clicking whir of a hummingbird as it dives down at my head to warn me away fron his flowers.

The rustle of a candy wrapper during a movies quiet love scene.

The clickitty clack of the keyboard as I type in a quiet room.

The crunch of metal in a fender bender, the sad howl of an amblance

High heel shoes on a sidewalk

giggles of delight and the snorting laughter

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

nice assortment.
I love nature sounds in general- don't like having to shut them out in cold weather.

(Zone 7a)

Squeaky stairs, clasp on a pocketbook closing, dropped coins, whipcracks, rollercoaster.

Stand outside on a busy street corner and close your eyes. What do you hear?

(Zone 7a)

Stand in an "empty" field. What do you hear?

(Zone 3b)

how about stand on the deck on deep cold clear night and "listen" for the northern lights. ( I've never heard them, but rumors persist)..

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Sounds remembered from grammar school... long, long, long ago..
The sound of book pages turning,
The soft whoosh of an eraser on a chalkboard,
the sighing sound of relief at the end of a test,
The startled gulping of air as the teacher suddenly touches the shoulder of a nodding student,
a ball bouncing in the play yard,
the bell ringing recess time,
The cacophony of "Music" from the kindergarten "band"
The two short beeps of the school bus announcing it's arrival in front of the house.
The sobbing of a child after that first fall from a bicycle and the victorious Wheeeee when the rider finally manages to stay balanced and speed down the lane.
The hum of the car engine as I drift off to sleep asking one last time...are we there yet?

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

The sound a client chewing gum.... oh please!!

The gentle murmuring of a horse when they are happy to see me.

The breathing of the cat while she stares at me and waits for me to wake up.

SacValley - yeah, the fog horn sound... I find it extremely comforting. Remembering my Peninsula life of 40 years, windows open, dark, fog and that sound ... love it.

I also find the sound of my ice skate blade gliding across clean ice extremely comforting.

(Zone 7a)

I miss that one too. All the sounds of the ocean.
