That describes this day, in southern Ohio! Trimmed back some dead stems, pushed a few back into the ground and saw beautiful growth appearing. How was your day?
A glorious day!!!
Started off to work this morn at 5:15, got in front of the house on the road and the car made a half circle on the ICY gravel road. Took us 10 mins. to get the car back in the driveway. Called in to work. Now we are waiting for the snowstorm tonight which will dump 5 to 10 inches of snow on top of the ice and on top of the snow from the storm before.
Tomorrow will problably be another weather day--no work. Where is Spring. We haven't had a hard winter like this for years. Stuck here in Iowa....
About 80 and bright outside, am stuck in the office, but not for long. Gonna transplant a few seedlings when I get home, been doing that in the moonlight with the help of a helogen shop light the last two nights.
Bitterly cold here. We've got a clear sky tonight and what looks like a full mooon. Bet we'll have a hard frost tomorrow again. My little tubs on my doorstep are showing signs of life. They froze at Christmas. But they've got a few crocuses in them and a few daffs, and they're just about in flower. My snowdrops are all in flower now. But it's still definitely winter, not spring. The River Tees has flooded further up the river. I'm in Middlesbrough, which is near the estuary; there's a flood warning out for Yarm a few miles away.
I'm taking IT courses locally. Had an exam yesterday on IT and Society, one this evening on word-processing (part of ECDL) and have one tomorrow on databases. I do some in Middlesbrough and some in Stockton (neighbouring town). The uni building in Stockton is right by the waterside. I have my lunch and watch the birds on the river. Last week there were a pair of swans busy preening themselves. One of them shook a leg and waggled his tail feathers at me. Certainly makes lunchtime more interesting.
I have crocs and daffs coming up and new growth on my columbine, sedums, and iris's.It rained yesterday so I can't do much still kind of a mud hole, and there is another front moving in. I hope we are done with the snow. This was the worst winter we have had in 10-12 years. It seems like every nice day we have I have to work.. Enough whineing.I am off to the dungeon to do some laundry...
The storm clouds are movin' in, but it's been gorgeous weather this week in middle Tennessee. Yesterday I jumped across our back fence to haul several hundred pounds of cow manure to my compost heap and get it turned before the rain we're supposed to get this afternoon.
Can you imagine explaining to non-gardeners how I fell in love with this property becuase it had:
1. an already started compost/leaf mold pile;
2. dozens of big leaf-producing trees; and
3. a next-door neighbor who provides all the manure I can haul?????
Plus we got two ponds and lots of mulched-but-never-planted flower beds around the house!!!
My inlaws and our friends looked at me kinda funny when I described our dream home in these terms, but I'm as happy as a pig in mud.
And the best part - my Bergenia seeds sprouted yesterday!!!
I just took the dog out and I stopped to look at my bulb bed. My crocus are starting to push through the mulch! It's been raining all day and I'm looking at my flower bed. My neighbors must think I'm nuts. Oh well, you know what they say: "When you're nuts, no one can drive you crazy".
Just seen our full moon as I was coming home after exam (glad that's over!). It's low in the sky and ENORMOUS. It's sending a glow over everything. It's like having a child's playtoy placed in the sky. We'd another hard frost today and will be the same tomorrow I'm sure.
It's snowing here in NE Oregon, it started during the night and we had 5 inches by daylight. This is on top of old snow that had a heavy crust on it. temp is up to 17F, that is about -8 or -9C. Northerner, our full moon shining on the snow the last few nights was spectacular. I could see my horses in the field 1/4 mile away, and even tell them apart! Did you ever look at the moon with binocculars? That is amazing.
What's really amazing is thinking that everyone wherever they are looks up and sees that same moon. No moon tonight because we've rain and wind and cloud cover. And bitterly cold again. I used to ride when I was a student - used to go once a week with friends. I phoned home and told my Mum I was learning how to jump. Of course my Mum thought I meant these great big fences that Harvey Smith and our other British riders used to jump on Horse of theYear Show. Of course, I was just a beginner so it was only walking the horse over a few poles on the ground!! How many horses do you have? I used to read all the pony books when I was a little girl.
I was keen on astronomy too. My Dad bought me a telescope when I passed the 11plus to get into Grammar School. It doesn't work very well now though. I kept a promise to myself a few years ago and visited the Royal Observatory in Edinburgh. There's wasn't very much to see but I'd passed it so many times when I was a girl, kept saying I'd got to go in there. Finally made it.
