Hi I am new to gardening, and I have a huge piece of land that is overwhelming. I just turned to soil and want to know if anyone has any ideas on what I can use in this space that will keep the weeds away. I've heard that mulch will do the trick, has anyone else heard this too?
no more weeds
Mulch will definitely help, and if you're planning to put a garden bed there, then it's probably the best way to go. If you're not going to be planting anything there, you might try landscape fabric underneath the mulch, that will help a little more. But over time you're going to get some weeds there anyway no matter what you do (unless you pour concrete over the whole area...and even then you'll still get some weeds coming up in the cracks between the concrete!). You just need to pull them as you see them, then they never get too overwhelming.
If its' a gardening space that you aren't planning on using seeds in you can put down preen and water it in.. it helps keep seeds from germinating. I usually put it down under the mulch water it in then mulch over it..then I put it on top of the mulch in spring and fall..
