CA trip...

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

Hi, Venu. What's kept you away from the Rose Forum lately?

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

I'm there in lurk mode. I'll fess up though. I became a bit befuddled by the constant battle with (soooo many expletives deleted) BS. If cats could kill BS, I'd have 451. Can you imagine how many turkeys I would have to buy for their Thanksgiving dinner? :~)

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Oh I am so glad you guys enjoyed the pictures! They are for your enjoyment!

Pirl, photography is an old dream... my dad was a photographer when he was young and I grew up hearing about how Leica was the best etc... so my dream has always been to be able to take fantastic pictures... I have an old Nikkon that I love it, but digital photography has changed it all for me. It's instant gratification!

I gave myself an early xtmas gift! a Panasonic Lumix FZ18 - it has a Leica lens and it's 18x optical zoom. I believe is the closest to a SLR camera - without having to change the lens... which can be so expensive!

Zuzu I love having you at the NE forum... you have so much to share... I wish Kell and Sue also join us here... Trully very nice folks here... you know how much I love them... I am dying to meet Victor and Al in person... I loved meeting Dave!!!! So far I have had the best time meeting everyone in DG... You guys have made my life so rich! I am trully blessed!
Regarding English, you know it's my second language and I am way to excited sometimes... and yes I overuse !!!!!!!

Venu, I am so glad about getting Eden... I totally fell in love with the one at Garden Valley... so amazing... I am glad it's a vigorous one... Crown Princess Margareta is gorgeous but not so tall... I may have to move that one...

Here goes some pictures of Lone Pine ... I absolutely loved all the bonsais and the succulents I got there... and the owner was very nice too...

Kassia, your Lone Pine pictures are just wonderful. If they decide to branch out into mail-order, they should use your photos in their catalog or on their Website.

Remember that beautiful single yellow rose they had growing near one of the greenhouses there, the one I thought might be Golden Wings? Kell and I went on a nursery crawl the other day, and I found a Golden Wings rose at Dig Nursery for only $5. It's a rather sad and neglected plant, but what do you want for a nickel, right?

As for your language excuse, you know it won't fly with me, Lady. I'm a foreigner too, and English is my fifth language. Just concentrate on the rules you learned instead of listening to your co-workers and the anchormen on the TV networks. They can't speak their own language.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

I just slept in front of the TV... the I was watching the game... The Red Sox won !!!!! oh I am happy!!!

Here is Golden Wings...

Ok Kassia, I am going to lurk here with Zuzu because I just took a look and you do all have a lot of purdy (sorry Zuzu, bad English) pictures and tons of fun wit this group! Plus your enthusiasm is missed so I have to get my fix here. :-)

A favorite. A must have with roses if you haven't tried it yet.

Oh Sue, you are more than welcome here... it's so good to be able to introduce you to all my wonderful NE friends... this is trully a great bunch!!!!!!!!

I have never seen that geranium... I am going to look into it... really nice purple!

More Begonias.... I am totally addicted... I have to get some next year!

don't know which one is this one ...

It's the best geranium, as all the various online comments can attest to.

Begonias are so fun, I tried them for the first time last year, I will always get them now, they are such a bright spot in the garden, long blooming and so cheerful and beautiful.

Great looking one !!!!! where did you get your begonias???

Sue, when you have a chance please post some pics of those wonderful containers we saw at Kings... my camera was not working when we went there... some gorgeous and creative containers!!!

Oh that spotted one is a Chilean something, can't remember, Latin name starts with an L. Kell collected them.

Ok nightie night my dear, I am sitting in a hotel, with a snoozing DH and 2 pups, tomorrow we are doing some back country 4W driving in the Jeep in the gold country foothills near old mines, exploring the area.

Oh and I want to collect more of these little geraniums. Remember these in the large pot at Filoli?

Good for you!!!! hope you have tons of fun!!!

yes, I remember those at Filoli... first time I saw some of those gorgeous leaves... and the flowers are such a contrast also!!! love it!!!

That begonia above was the one on the entryway at Filoli. I pick up mine in 4" pots at nurseries in the spring and also Costco carries bags of them, not as fancy but nice or hanging baskets.
I'll add those pots when I get home, they are on my PC. But wait, I posted most of them toward the bottom of this thread.

Kassia, your unnamed red flower is the bloom on Lapageria rosea, a Chilean vine, and the yellow one above it is a Nemesia.

Thanks for those pics of my lovely cross-eyed Chantilly and cauliflower-eared Lumpia. They're such good boys. Today it rained all day and it was quite cold, so the cats slept in a big heap and kept each other warm.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

The baseboard radiator is keeping my feet warm as I look at all the wonderful photos - thanks to all who posted.

Kassia: I, too, have some older Nikon SLR cameras that I no longer use. I have to agree on the instant gratification you mentioned. The film developing industry must have taken a big hit with the entrance of digital cameras to the market.

My love of photography is what led me to gardening.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Welcome to our 'transplants' from the western forums!!! It's so great to be able to share our absolute zest for life with others of like mind ... and soul. Kassia, thanks for inviting Sue and Zuzu!! What great photos you have all shared! And the wonderful stories make me wish so much to have been able to see what you saw.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Hello, Zuzu!! Hi California Sue! So nice to have you come by. I don't post as much as I used to, but I do spend at least a little time at DG everyday to keep up with things. (Although sometimes not too successfully) Did you see the thread where Kassia came to see Grampapa? They invited me over and we all posted pictures.

You know, I was born in Culver City but my family moved East when I was only four. So I feel like I have a tiny bit of California in me.

So now I just want to comment on all the absolutely gorgeous flowers being posted here. Cats too! LOVE the cats!

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

Thanks for the welcome, Candyce. I have a slight claim to the Northeast because I went to Fordham and was all set to get my doctorate at Cornell when I decided to get married in San Francisco instead -- a huge mistake as it turned out. All those years of schooling and I still couldn't make an intelligent choice.

Nap, great to see you again. Yes, I did see you in a couple of Gram threads and asked her to give you my best. I gave up on the Pets Forum some time ago, but went back there last week. I immediately ran into a dog person trying to pick a fight in a cat thread, so I'm gone again. Life's too short to waste time on that kind of belligerent challenge.

Kassia, here's how Vanilla's relaxing on the sun porch today: Life imitating art for a change.

Great photo, Zuzu!

Huge mistakes are easier to correct in gardening than marriage, by the use of a shovel and/or pruners. But come to think of it ..........

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

Thanks, Pirl. Vanilla is my calendar cat and he always manages to come up with a picturesque pose. As for the other thing, imagine if I'd had gardening tools back then.... I'd probably still be in prison.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

That is one precious picture, Zuzu! Love the window-hanging too. And so you know, gram/Jan did tell me you said to say hello. I was pleased.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I meant to add "....." at the end of my last line but you are so swift you got the message. I think you'd have been freed by now!

Animals that pose are fun. Our beagles were good at that but not Harry. Vanilla is the ideal calender boy! Do you have any cats with dark colors that are named either Mudpie or Mudslinger?

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

I assume you're trying to think of the name of my potential downfall -- Mudslide.

My only dark-colored cats are the boy named Lucy and the girl named Desi.
