Mountain Laurel declining

Chapel Hill, TN

New growth on Mountain Laurel looks chlorotic then starts to turn brown at the tip and along the edges. Treated with Ironite, liquid and granular. Took a sample to local extension agency and soil was a little alkaline. Treated with aluminum sulphate. Also have applied general garden fertilizer. Have watered. they are in sun. Now the new growth looks almost white when it comes out and then it starts to brown. I appreciate any help!

It could just be sunburn. Mountain Laurel is typically an understory plant so it just might need some time to adapt. I wouldn't worry unless the older growth starts to fail. Maybe by next spring it will have sorted itself out :)

I would be a wee bit more patient as any soil changes or feeds wont work instantly, it can take a whole season before results, good OR bad are evident, you are doing your best for now, but come next spring if you are still getting the same symptoms on the new growth, then go to plan 2 and try other things, it may well be that your tree has been attacked by an insect, an air born disease and sometimes it takes a lot of detective work to get to the root of the problem, if it is worrying you too much, you can try prune off the bits that are bad so next spring you start with a clean slate so to speak. good luck.
