I saw a gorgeous picture of spring flowers springing up among "fiddleheads". It was so breath-takingly beautiful. But where is some one to find the "fiddleheads". I just planted a number of tulip, crocus, and daffodil bulbs. But I'm missing the fiddleheads. Does any one know what I mean? thanks !!
fiddleheads ????
I believe they are the early shoots of the fiddlehead fern that are edible.
Thank you !! I am not able to find the fiddlehead fern--but- am looking at other ferns.
Here is a nice article for you. :)

Wow !! Thanks much !!! Badseed ---Now I know that what I am looking for is the - Ostrich Fern. The article even includes some interesting recipes !!!!
White Flower Farms sells Casa Blanca lilies with Athyrium filix femina--the common Lady Fern. The fern grows in all states except Hawaii so you might find it in the wild where you are. Ferns and lilies are a nice care-free combination.
Do these ferns survive in sun?
More fern info. http://www.backyardgardener.com/jmoore/ferns.html
Ostrich ferns will take full sun but also need ample water. They tend to dry out and look ratty without moist soil.
You need to buy your ferns with care as in some areas, they loose all the foliage in winter and the new fronds may not be on show at the same time as your other bulbs/planting scheme, just thought I should let you know this as I would hate you to be disappointed after all your careful planning and work. Good luck though, it sounds wonderful. WeeNel.
Weenel---- Now that you say that----I think that you are RIGHT !!--- I have some other ferns that pop up MUCH later than the spring flowers !! In my zone, they do lose all foliage. Oh well, The picture of them together is beautiful-- I will probably have to enjoy them seperately. Maybe it will work for some one else, though . //thanks !!
Sword ferns have fiddle heads too. I don't know if they are edible.
