adel, one of my bird books has pictures of the Black Phoebe with and without the white on the tail. Perhaps it's a seasonal or a gender thing. Bet Resin will let us know.

That's the old name for both the Spotted Towhee and the Eastern Towhee. They're considered two different species now.

Yep, Black Phoebe. The 'white' is just sunlight reflecting off the feathers - you can see the shadow of the wire half-way down the tail, appearing as a black band.
