TA I would love seeds..

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

Ted, I am getting the manure from Bronc. You need to let him know you want some. Sorry:(
If he doesn't have anymore, I will share mine with you.

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

I have been digging trees and more trees. Too many to bring to wait to the last minute. Saturday is taken, so I had better get'em dug. I am putting them bare root in a large wastebasket and putting them in my extra bathroom in the dark with a wet towel covering the roots. That is better treatment than the ones we bought from the local nursery when we first moved here. They were shipped stacked in a trailer bare root and dry.

I am thinking these will do just fine. Lots of sweetgums today and a few cedar elms. Tomorrow, I will go for others.

I started out in a sweatsuit and shed the top for a shortsleeve shirt pretty quickly. I am sure glad it rained lately. It makes the digging a bit easier.

What I need is to find some sycamore trees for myself, but on this whole 54 acres, there is not one!

Mibus, if you are digging anyway, would you dig one for me? It brings back fond memories of going out in the woods with my grandmother to gather roots (i think it was the roots) to make sassafras tea to make whoever was under the weather feel better.

I could bring you a little tree about the same size if I knew what you wanted. That is just about any darn tree except the Sycamore tree that I want for myself LOL.

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

i know i must have seen one of those in my lifetime but don't recognize it yet. the leaves appear purplish. does it stay that way?

I am looking forward to having one of them from Mibus2.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Mama no they don't stay that way they get taller and green...I'll try and get a pic of the bigger tree today and post

Charlene sure I mean there are a ton of them showing up all over out back so not a problem..as for something for me
dang I have no idea I am still trying to pick up on all the names compared to how I know them on everything y'all are callin them.

and Frost I have ya down for one too.

They are starts that come from the roots so they are not cuttings at all
And gee Char maybe I should bring the "tea" I have sittin in my frig right now that I made from boiling the roots.
haven't tried it myself. lol

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

We had sassafras trees all over the place back home in Ohio. Grandpa used to dig up the roots and we had tea all winter long. Perhaps my parents may want one so we can have that here. I will ask them.

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

Mibus, bring on the tea and we'll have sassafras tea at the ru. Who knows, we may all be cured of whatever ails us. LOL I wonder if I should make a poltice out of it for my rash from something that I got into (poison ivy, oak or sumac maybe)? I really should watch where I step, but I lose control when I see something growing along the roadway. Thank goodness it is cooling down,so there is less chance of a snake in the grass!

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

yes please bring some tea. i have never had it. is it awful?

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

No! It is wonderful! I used to drink a lot of it, when I was a teenager,.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

I would love some tea!!

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

Sigh...add Sassafras tea, to the long list of things that could be bad for you!
I did a search on it, and it scared me, from drinking the tea...

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

I grew up on it... grandparents drank it until they got too old to gather anymore...

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

I know, I must have consumed gallons of the tea when I was in my 'hot tea stage' now I drink tea, but then, it was an 'event'
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sassafras

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Yep, us too. Although, it's not like we drank it every day, just once in a while through the winter. And just think of all the other things that we consume on a daily basis that are supposed to be bad for us...pop, other kinds of tea, fatty foods. Moderation is the key.

Colleyville, TX(Zone 8a)

Sheila and BlueEyes, I am not sure about the Brazilian verbena. I thought I would have lots of seedlings. I do have tons of seeds. My friend who gave me the original plant will dig up some of his volunteers, but if we don't connect by the RU, you may only have seeds. Sorry.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

No problem, seeds are fine!

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

i have a braz. verbena for blue eyes i think. who else wanted one?

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Thank you mamajack!!

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

OK well so y'all know I have done reading on the tea and I guess that is why I haven't tried it yet, but then I am not a lab rat getting huge doses of it everyday either.
Plus I have boiled it twice and strained it each time to try and get as much of the "oil" that was floating on top out. I just happen to have some empty milk jugs that I washed out ...since I like to make gallon batches of raspberry iced tea to drink so I will pour it into those and bring it along.

I also took a pic today of the trees there are both sassafras and the persimmon in it as they were growing together....hubby has cleared all the greenbrier vines and any other vines off of them so it looks rather bare out there now.

About the rabbit poop, it's not just rabbit poop. There is also pine pellets (like feline pine) and Timothy hay (no seeds). Both of these seem to help in compost, they break down easy. Just so those of you who want my rabbit poop know exactly what they are getting.

Kingston, OK(Zone 7a)

You got some and save me a pod of cassia alata

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Will do, thanks!

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

Do you compost it first, bluesmaven? I had read that rabbit poop doesn't have to be composted--one of the few kinds that doesn't.

OTOH--since it's so late in the year, mine probably will get composted anyway.

Pattie

Thank you Blue-eyes for the cassia, and I have you down for the formosa seeds.
