North Texas RoundUp - Trade page 4
Cool Mitch!!
What's the Latin name for the flower in your picture?
debnes
Verbesina encelioides - http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/59964/
Another one of my loved weeds...
Mitch,
So many blooms resemble it. Do you have some extra seeds? If so put me down for some. I have some seeds to trade you. They aren't all listed yet, but I am bringing them to the swap.
debnes
Wow, you should see, the bordered patch butterflies love it, I have found many on them this year. I will try to gather some seed too, although i usually get volunteers.
Josephine.
# more weeks and counting lol I'm so looking forward to coming and meeting everyone
seeds for me too. the only thing i have that butterflies just get drunk over is the mist flower.
Debnes - will try to get some, the wrens have been eating them so fast that I am not so sure about the seeds right now but I will do my best.
Mamjack will try my best.. have you thought about butterfly bush? They are all the rage with butterflies for me... the goldenrod too...
scared of goldenrod. and all of my butterfly bushes died this year. i guess too much water. did anyone else have problems with them? one was an old established small tree.
Why scared of goldenrod? It likes to go but I love it. .. .
Butterfly bushes... I will bring you a baby cutting. They are growing like mad.. way to much so I keep cutting them back and well starting more cuttings.
The Cowpen daisy attracts butterflies for nectar, but I was talking about larval host, it is great for the caterpillars. I will see what I can gather, we have some at the Fielder house too.
Great Josephine, love this plant and it loves my yard too!
Right Josephine, (Bordered Patch, and maybe one or 2 others.)Thats exactly why I wanted some. :-) I had some seedlings, but they didn't make it.
I have all kinds of Buddlija seeds. Some I planted from seed are doing better than the older bushes. They came up very quick. I will bag some up and label them. I have Ruby Red, Black Knight, and Bi Color. And one I had seeds from someone here on DG that came up a nice light blue-lavender color. Here is a pic of that one>
Mamajack, I didn't lose my butterfly bush, but I sure lost some salvias from all the rain. What a weird year it's been.
I just got back from an overnight trip to the "mountains" west of Waxahachie and a little camping spot on the Brazos. I have never seen so many Cowpen Daisies. They were blooming everywhere! I also saw lots of frostweed and a few prickly poppy. Very cool sight.
Sheila, I may just take you up on that offer to dig up more horse herb. I need to just make it a day trip out to Weston's, Metro Maples, and swing by there. :)

Sweezel - can I ask for a snakeherb please?
Goldenrod - I cut back all my plants to 3 foot the first of Aug. They are all the same short height now and really great in the garden.
Mitch, If the GR has begun to bud and you cut it back does it make new buds? I probably should have done that with the ones Sylvia gave me, they are too tall, but really pretty. It would be nice to know how much control we have over the height.
debnes
It sure does. That is when I remember to cut it!
sweezel....I would love a bicolor salvia and a hummingbird plant. Please let me know if there is anything I can bring for you.
Thanks, Kim
sweezel, I also would like to have a bicolor salvia and a hummingbird plant. I hope there are plants on my list that you can use! Thanks, Patricia
I will add your link now Sweezel. Also, can I get a Hummingbird plant if it isn't too late.
I will Dmail my cell number for you to get in touch with me about the Horseherb when you are ready.
Thanks
weezel
I would like to have a bicolor salvia and a hummingbird plant.
shelia - I already have you marked down for a big mess of roots... seeds nothing.
PLEASE...........may i have a bicolored butterfly bush. please, oh please, oh please. i have wanted that for 2 yrs.
also, i want a snake herb and the hummingbird plant. it's supposed to be hardy here but mine died last winter. what are you looking for?
mamajack, all of the hummingbird plants are now spoken for, but they rooted so well that I will try to root some more before the swap. They are hardy here, but they seem to be a bit late coming up. I put a little 4 inch pot of one in last October and by the end of April there was still no sign of it so I bought another larger one at a plant sale. The little one showed up a few weeks later so now I have two right next to each other. :)
I got everyone down on my list and added a few more things.
Josephine, I saw your want list and will try to get you a soapberry. I have several babies in the back, but tried to dig up one last fall and lost it.
Pat, can I get a few liatris and a pot of little bluestem?
Dfwdennis, can I get 2 chile petins?
charlenesplants, I will try to root a cutting of Don Juan and Tropicana rose. It may be too late in the year for it to take, but I can try. If they don't take, would you like fresh cuttings the day of the swap? I also have a plain white with red eye Althea. I can bring you seeds and can try air layering for next spring. Also, can I get one of your Passion Flower Incarnata?
sweezel, I have you down for liatris and little bluestem.
Patricia!
I just got a couple of the little bluestem plants, and I sure like them a lot. If you have any spares I would love some.
debnes
Mitch or Josephine -- do you have a few Cowpen Daisy (Verbesina encelioides) seeds that I could have? That daisy is one of the biggest butterfly magnets I've ever seen. But I can't find the plant in any of the local nurseries.
Carla
I was puttering in the flowerbed this weekend and realized that there are a few things I can give away:
Salvia nemarosa - 2
OxEye Daisies - 3
a couple of good-sized Lantana horrida
Passiflora ceurula - 1
Bur Oak acorns
