Good morning everyone!
Guess I need to set my vibes to Idaho now....
Let's see...
West... northwest... there!
Let's try that!
Karen
Our weather is supposed to clear up early next week VA Rose...then those vibes will get over the Rockies better....LOL
I just love the petals on that AV Can Can Trail...you can see where the name came from :0) Don't you see skirts a flyin'
when you look at those blooms????
~Brenda
Brenda.............maybe Can Can trail is a newer one...............she is a beauty and not listed on my First Class disk..................
Good afternoon Ladies! Just thought I would take a break from finishing up some of the Christmas Stockings I'm making to check in on Bingo.
:( I don't have either one of today's calls on my card! That AV 'Can Can Trail' is a pretty one, isn't it? I LOVE the Columnea 'Light Prince' and bought a small one from Rob's awhile back but it has not done well at all, only a teeny little plant to begin with and not just one little stem left living. I don't seem to do well with teensy plants! I was at one of our local Target 's one day a few weeks ago and went through the garden center. They are selling the exotic angel plants now too and had two huge baskets of the Columnea light prince (or else they sure looked exactly like L. Prince ... but both looked to be suffering and had huge areas of each basket that had turned brown and were dead. I would not pay the price they ask at Target for plants anyway.
Well, I hope everyone is having a great Saturday and not working too hard!
Hey Brenda .... are you going to borrow Makshi's helmet for this game? I better get a few vibes heading NorthWest! Is it real cold up your way? I saw on the news last night that some area's in the NW had had snow. They showed a really Beautiful shot of some place in Oregon with lots of snow and it was really pretty!
Darn't! Don't have both of them.
:( Donna
OK Ladies, I'm SURE it's beginners luck here but guess what? I'm 2 for 2 :) Had them both :) Did the happy dance all day today *lol*
OMG OMG OMG, I MUST have that Light Prince!
Lin, the yellow goldfish that you sent me has been repotted and is sitting on the corner of my bathtub. It must LOVE the humidity from the showers every day as I could swear that the foliage has turned neon green! I will have to take a picture of it to show you, it is AMAZING! I keep talking to it and so far it's doing great!
Sorry I haven't posted alot lately but I've really been down. I lost my Parrot Impatiens to rot and have started a bunch of Datura seeds which seem to be getting some sort of "fuzz" on them. I have them in nice mini tubs with covers but they are getting cotton of some sort. I have NEVER been able to grow seeds for some reason but keep refusing to give up. It's just so disheartening to lose a plant (the parrot impatiens) that you want to grow SO BAD and this is the second one I kill so it makes it even worse. I did take a cutting before it died so I'm HOPING maybe I can root it but again here, never been that great at rooting. I need plants with roots! I'm hoping maybe Streps will change my luck with all of that as they look like they are pretty easy (at least Gail, Brenda and you make it look easy) *lol*
Need a good source for Light Prince now *lol* That is a MUST HAVE for sure *lol*
I'm going to wait until spring though and see how I do wintering over the lipsticks/goldfish that I already have and trying o be a good strep mom to the 2 plants I bought from Gail.
I don't know if I am helping or hurting...........what works for one doesn't work for another.........with seeds, the second they germinate I try to see that they get some circulation..............(so they won't rot)...........sometimes I just turn the dome (whatever I am using) a little whacky so fresh air comes in............
To get strong roots, I have also been told to slant the bottom of whatever you are growing the seeds in so the air can get to the roots.............(Park Seed told me that one).........
With plants, I have killed as many as i have grown.............so has everyone else......you can't worry about it...............that is how I learn.........each time I stick leaves of some kind, i change the mix just to see if they grow better in a different mix............(and sometimes i get nothing from the effort, but I learned something else)
You chose 2 very compact varieties of streps...........the blooms will be great but don't think your leaves are going to get 12" long..........they won't as they are compact plants..........maybe when you get another two leaves on each one, you can try sticking a leaf and growing a new baby...............
Kim- The Violet Barn has 'Light Prince.' I'm sure there are other places, too.
http://www.robsviolet.com/
Lin said that Rob's Light Prince was so small, it died..................(the one that she ordered)............when spring comes around people will have cuttings.............
Yeah, the one I got from Rob's was small, too. I got it back in April this year but so far it's still kickin'. lol Keeping my fingers crossed. ; )
good for you, cjolene............I started out with 3 small cuttings of it from a trade.......I just kept taking more cuttings as i could...........now, you have to see how thick it is.........I am going this weekend to separate some of it into different pieces and put in a big basket outside to hang...........let me go get it and take a quick pic..........the rootings are waaay to close together.............
***************just decided to take some more cuttings and fill another 6" pot............then when that is full I will put in a big basket.............
Hmmm, Can Can Trail was from the AVSA web site pictures. I wonder why it's not on the CD? Maybe something to do with being called "First Class"? I have no idea??
Lin I can see snow on the mountains that surround the valley I live in but thankfully none that I saw falling here a few days ago stuck to the ground. We had 27 degrees yesterday morning but this morning it is 31 and it is supposed to be getting back up into the low 60's for day time temps this week after having high 40's this past week.
Makshi will my red colander work for a hat or does it have to be silver? Maybe you could just send directions for the tin foil one? ;0) LOL
Kim I hope those streps grow as easy for you as they have for me! Getting the nice healthy good sized ones from Gail will really help your odds. I'm going to be trying my hand at growing seeds for outside planting come this spring, I did it one time before and I killed them all when I tried to get them acclimated to outside after having been started inside. But I'm looking forward to trying again.
I'm going to be working here at my desk today (have to get something done while no grandkids are here!) and I'll make a couple of calls closer to noon.
~Brenda
BINGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh well it was a good try...LOL I did not even get my card in for this month... LOL Had problems with me dog and she is/was more important. Thought we were going to lose her but she seems to be doing alright... Then to boot she got made at me and would not sit with me or let me hold her until yesterday afternoon... The little brat.... I love them so...
I just wanted Brenda to know I am still plaining to give the prize I said I would and hope maybe next month you have another one and life does not get in the way.... You know I have join this 3 times now (Bingo I mean) and out of the 3 I got to play once as life got in the way... I may have to rethink Bingo...LOL
Hello to all have missed you.
Susan
Susan I'm sorry you didn't get in on this months bingo game. But I'm glad your dog is doing better!
Looks like everyone is off enjoying the day, for some it's a three day weekend, I had forgotten about that.
I'm going to go ahead and pick a couple of calls for today as I had said I would earlier.

It is Thanksgiving weekend up here...hubby is bar-b-quing a chicken........
Well since Rosa is looking good I am going to go a round of golf with my Hubby and Son Mike... Is going to be 92 again on Tues.. This weather is stupid...
Brenda, The first time I joined my brother passed and I played last month... then this month Rosa decided to get sick and go into Grand Mall Seziers my spelling is awful.. I think you get the picture.. It was awful... I have been at my job for 14 so years and I never lost it like I did on Monday... Oh well all under the bridge I hope... :-) Today is a wonderful day..
Hugs,
susan
So far any of the AV's that I've seen with "Fountain" in the name have been trailers, Enjoy your BBQ :))
Susan enjoy your golf game, your right today is a wonderful day!!
I took a picture of Bristol's Surprise Party as she is just so pretty right now. This picture makes half of the one flower look white but it is a blush pink with darker pink lines along with the purple.
~Brenda
What beauties, Brenda!!
I have one of the bingo numbers called....yippppeeeee!!
:) Donna
I was just looking around...has anybody seen Sinningia "merry christmas"? Rob's has it too...the most vivid colours I've ever seen...
http://www.gesneriads.ca/sinni091.htm
Very pretty!
I just love the way you are putting in pictures like they have been doing for a few months............I am dead for that trailer................going to look for any trailer with the name fountain in it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG Brenda! That Surprise Party is ABSOLUTELY beautiful! Definitely going on the "need to get" list. I find that I am so drawn to the fantasy line of streps. Ordered Streaker from Gail and CAN'T WAIT until she gets home *lol*
Stunning!
Nothing on today's calls :(
So glad I played, you ladies are so much fun :)
I like the gloxinia Polo Polo....
It has fuzz... and spots!!!!
Wow!
(not on my card though...)
yup...fuzz and spots....both major pluses on any plant!!!
I am home and up from a nap (LOL).............I will be looking on my October hunt and November hunt for that one for sure...............Surprise Party..........the only thing about the Bristol's series is that they stay so compact.....................which is ok with me, but I have to admit I love those that get giant in size................
Hi all! Just checking in this weekend. I've got a whopping ONE of the calls! LOL I think we're all winners, though, just getting to see all these beautiful pictures! Brenda, your 'Bristol's Surprise Party' is the prettiest of all, though! I love those fantasy Streps! :o)
I just got cuttings of Columnea 'Light Prince' not long ago, but they rooted up beautifully and I'm so tickled to finally have this one. :o)
Y'all are doing great with that Columnea 'Light Prince'! I don't know what I did wrong! I just don't have luck sometimes with real small cuttings.
Brenda: That Strep 'Bristol's Surprise Party' is really Gorgeous! Y'all are so good at growing those Streps ... sure wish I could get better at them. Gail sent me 2 and they are ok but I am worried. I just can't figure out why they don't seem to like my house! I guess I should just stick to AV's and Chirita's and oh, the Episcia's are doing great now that I've got them all in terrarium like conditions! I have a feeling next spring I will be looking to buy more Episcia's!
Well, regarding the Bingo game .... it looks like I am starting off slow! I don't have any of the calls on my card! Maybe the vibes from Florida will reach Idaho by sometime next week. LOL. Still a long ways to go so I'm sure I will eventually get one or two and catch up!
A ziploc bag is the answer for me 99% of the time, Lin. All cuttings I get, and any very small plants immediately go into a ziploc bag. It's truly a miracle-worker for me! LOL
I do the Zip Lok bag thing too Amy and sometimes find the plants rotted from so much moisture. I guess when I have plants in zip lok bags under the lights I should open the bags more often to let the air circulate. I'm thinking maybe I should just put them out on my deck .... it gets bright light and loads of humidity out there ... I wouldn't even need plastic bags out there!
Your deck might be just the place! Usually humidity and warmth are the things my house lacks. It was so hot this summer that warmth wasn't a problem, but usually the menfolk in the house like for it to be cool. I put a heating pad under my Hoya cuttings and it really worked wonders! Those heat mats they sell for seedlings are too expensive for me, but the heating pad worked just fine. :o)
I don't have a problem with things rotting. Of course, occasionally something will rot while it's in the bag, but it's very rare for that to happen. And I don't open the bags either. Usually that's not on purpose, but just because I forget. LOL
Nobody take what I say I do as the "correct way" it's just my way, and it works for me. :o) So many different things work for so many different people. It's really a matter of each person finding the fix for their specific problem. Sure would be easier if one method would work for everyone, though, wouldn't it? ;o)
Boy Amy ... if one method worked for everyone, can you imagine how many more plants we'd all have to trade?
I think it's probably fortunate that not everything works! LOL I do like to have room for actual furniture, you know... LOL ;o)
I don't care at if I just end up with a bed and a chair to watch football (LOL)............but my adult children do care!!!!!!! What used to be the "baby" room............my office............now has 4 big gro light stands............surprising the child with the baby on Thanksgiving..........maybe they can use my closet for her crib (LOL)
Hello,
With the zip loc bags don't you have to worry if the plant touches the side? I have two pots of diffrent plants in a ziploc and it worries me about the sides.. I think I read it somewhere about the side touching the plants...
Susan
I don't personally think it is a good thing for the plant to touch the sides........it will rot the leaves on me???????????? but once again............it obviously works for Rain..............
