If you are the only one in your area who gardens then the moles want to live at your house. I have tried everything except trapping. Not strong enough and couldn't stomach emptying them. I tried the castor oil stuff they sell in the nurseries. The percentage of castor oil is not strong enough, I believe. I found the receipe using the 100% castor oil you buy in the pharmacy in the laxative aisle. I went, in one day, from 3 mole mounds (Mt Hood mounds) and 8 places where the ground needed to be stepped back down, to one mound and two places to step down the next, to no activity at all the 3rd and 4th day. This is what I tried I hope if you need it, it will work for you. 6oz bottle of castor oil, (walmart) 2 tablespoons dishwashing detergent,( high sudsing kind like Dawn) in a gallon jug. Fill rest of jug with water. Swish around. This is your concentrate. Make sure lawn, garden or flowers are damp when you start, will not hurt any of these things or kids or pets. Use hose end sprayer. Spray well, a little longer on grass. After soaking, you must spray entire area with water to help it soak in. It takes alot. I took advantage of this rainy week and applied just before rains started or during is ok. As long as it gets soaked. I hope if you are having problems this helps, this is my first year gardening and I started wondering why I bother I have/had them so bad. This treatment is only good for about 30 days. It makes them sick to their stomach and they go elsewhere.
An answer to moles, so far!
Oh my God, these moles will wonder what hit them eh, good for you, far better than killing or poisoning as you rightly said, this mix wont harm any other wild life, so that's good enough for me, I will keep your mix in mind, however, I have such a huge garden, moles come and go all the time, I would need to buy shares in the pharmacy so I stamp the soil back into the area and they move on, by the way, the mole hills (soil dug by the moles) is great for seed growing as it is sifted so fine, also good in pots with less than normal compost added to help retain moisture, so these little devils are not all that bad of they can give up some nice sifted soil, Good luck, hope your problem has been solved. good luck. Weenel.
I will have to try this! Our moles are so bad and I have day care at home so I really have to be careful of what I spray/put down. I'll let you know how it works out for me. Maybe spring before I really see results since winter will set in soon.
Mine are so bad, I thought the entire population of China was trying to get through. Can't wait to try this. Thanks!!
