Nice pic Grandmaggie!!

Thanks so much for starting the new thread!!! Pelle :-)

Had a nice little surprise from this beautiful Hummingbird today.

All my regulars left about 2 weeks ago and this is the second one I've seen at my place since then.

He was really going crazy over the Agastache "Tutti Frutti", I don't think he missed a bloom on the whole plant.

House Finch Bathtime!

This very young Cardinal was spending most of its time in my one garden playing around waiting for Mommy who was making trips back and forth to feed her.

This was the only shot I could get when she stepped out of the garden for a moment.

Such a cutie!

I saw Robins back in my yard again yesterday.

Has anyone else noticed them back around?

Beachwood, NJ(Zone 6b)

Yes, Pelle I have had some Robins now for about one week. :)

Tiller, OR(Zone 8a)

Usually about 90% of my feathered visitors are Scrub Jays. Yesterday it was Robins. ;-)

Though they are too heavy, they kept trying to land at the end of the briars where the blackberries are. I laughed myself silly watching them.

Day before yesterday was a red letter day for backyard bird watching. I even saw Brown Creepers for the very first time! Also saw four different kinds of woodpeckers. Will be posting photos as soon as the other PC can be picked up. (I'm very rural, and can't make special trips to town)

Beachwood, NJ(Zone 6b)

I finally got out on the lake fishing yesterday. All I caught were some swan pics! :)

I know, I know, it's not a bird… But given the hummingbird confusion sometimes, I thought you might all like a shot of this Pink Spotted Hawk Moth that my brother in law took.

Swans are beautiful!

Northern, IN

I can't help but ask this - could that be a long tongue sticking out of the moth's mouth?

If so, unbelievable !!

Marlton, NJ

That mouth part is called proboscis and stays coiled up until their ready to eat. :-)

Marlton, NJ

Nice pics guys!

Good going GM! I love swans!

Thanks for the Hawk Moth Mrs Ed its very nice!

LOL adel!

Brainerd, MN

October 1 in Minnesota and we got to go out on the lake today! Shocking but true. Temps in the 70s.

We had a young visitor by the boat. I sensed that he knew he wasn't supposed to be that close but couldn't remember all the rules he learned this summer. I doubt he's been on his own for long.

Aww, beautiful pic sybil!! Glad he didn't know any better. :-)

what kind of sparrow ?

Thumbnail by adelbertcat
Anchorage, AK(Zone 4a)

adel, your sparrow has a yellow eyebrow. The White-throated Sparrow is the only sparrow, I can think of, in your area, with a yellow eyebrow. I believe it is either a juvenile or a Tan morph White-throated Sparrow.

Klamath River, CA

After researching some more I think it might be a house sparrow. How about it Resin?

It does not look like any of the house sparrows we have in this part of the country. The white wing band ant the breast look different. Not counting the yellow eyebrow.

Marlton, NJ

I don't see the cream colored eyestripe that the female Hosp (House Sparrow) has.

Marlton, NJ

The yellow toward the top of the beak is the same as a juvenile WTS but tan morphed.

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Ditto to Grasmussen and Pelletory - White-throated Sparrow

Resin

Klamath River, CA

on second thought, I think it's a White-throated Sparrow

Finally was able the pick up the PC I can work w/ images on, and look what I discovered on the way!
Ever since I saw my first Acorn WP, and read about the granery tree I had hoped to locate one. Oh, lookie here! Just look at the acorns stored in there. This is a pine tree, only dead at the top. The lower portions still sport green branches.

If these piglets stay all winter I'm going to need to go back to work part time to keep them in seed.
