What is this?

Aurora, CO

This plant is growing wild in my father's yard in south louisiana. at the tip of each branch is a small red flower that resembles a rose bud. Sorry the pictures are not great. I collected some of the seed pods which are orange and look like tiny tiny pumpkins.

any help would be great.

It's hard to see the flowers in your pictures, but it might be Malvaviscus drummondii http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/56887/

Thats it! Thank you so much!

It looks a little like my Mother's Flowering Maple plant. The blooms on her plant are so pretty and delicate. The blooms 'bow their heads' .

Take a look at this link. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/81764/

I hope the link works.

What would the difference in Truk's Cap and drummondii????????????

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

Turk's Cap is a common name that is applied to several species of Malvaviscus. The one in this thread is M. drummondii because the flowers point up; M. arboreus var. mexicanus in the link that was just posted has flowers that point down.
