Mosquito problems | Any Plant Suggestions?

Louisville, KY

I have a back yard with a huge mosquito infestation, and I was wondering if anyone knew of type of plant that could be used to drive them away, or any other solution to this problem?

Thanks,

1 cup lemon scented ammonia, 1/4 cup lemon scented dish soap, warm water to fill a 20 gallon hose end sprayer. Apply 3 times a week in early morning and late evening. Thoroughly soak any puddles or low lying areas.

Good luck, Smokey

Smokey, do we need to keep that solution away from any particular plants?

The other thing I would do is check for any places where you have standing water that they could be breeding in, if you have some either get rid of them if that's possible, or if it's not, then buy yourself some Mosquito Dunks, these contain a bacteria that will destroy the mosquito larva.

I was thinking down the same line as Ecrane, if the infestation is that bad, then you need to check where there breading ground is, kill the larvae and get rid of any containers that hold stagnant water as that is a sure breading ground for them, it could be a small ornamental pond either in your yard or next door neighbours, even a watering can left outdoors for a period of time will gather these pests, maybe a child's toy, I remember one time I got hold of an old tractor tyre that we were going to use as a planter, it was stored standing up on end and over the winter got filled with rain water inside the bottom, before you knew what hit you, this stagnant water was a breading ground for these pests plus some more, it is worth a look about to see where they are coming from, maybe you have lots of undergrowth around, but they do need water to lay their eggs into, like a nursery. good luck, hope you get rid soon.
