Quisqualis indica - Advice Please

Ariel, Israel

Is it possible to grow it as a flowerplant? Since this plant is a creeper- do you have any suggestions how to design the growth of it? If I change the location of it will it harm it's growth?
I would be grateful to receive any advice regarding this special plant.

It's a vine, so you're not going to be able to make it anything other than a vine. You can let it creep on the ground, or you can train it up a trellis. I suppose you could try and prune it to keep it shorter, but you'll lose a lot of the flowers if you do that too much. And as far as moving it, you can transplant it just like you can with anything else. I don't know what zone you're in or what your weather is like, if the weather is hot that's not a good time to transplant things, spring and fall are the best times.

Gee sorry ....but mine is is all through a huge 40 ft Jacaranda tree...it is like asking if a wisteria would like living in a pot ...sorry but perhaps something else would be better is there any reason not to put it in the ground?

I think it grows differently in different climates, I know people who grow them here and they're just a nice vine, they don't get out of control. Of course I have no idea what iris_susana's climate is like so I don't know how it would behave there.

Yes thats true but it's habit...here at any rate is to hang around as a shrub for about 4 years ...no flowers ...then when it is mature enough ...it throws up a long vine and then it is off! all over the place! and once it got up about 10 ft and flowers.....it may be different in other climates and situations....so I guess it could work if you give it some potash after a couple of years.

Thanks for your posts. I have to keep it in a pot because it stands in my patio.(floor tile)
The climate here is quite similar to Jerusalem's climate , but a little bit less cold in winter.
Snows very occasionally.
If it grows well, I'll train it up a trellis, as suggested.

Ok the if it snows I would put it somewhere inside during the real cold weather as it is a tropical vine....take it back out when the weather warms up....good luck ...it is lovely :)
