My usual planting time for caladiums is May 20, but, due to a broken wrist, that didn't happen this year. Worry, worry...375 bulbs still in divided trays awaiting planting when I finally gave in and had some landscapers do the job on June 9. The White Queens, normally starting their decline in mid-August, are still as full and upright as they were all season. I'd always heard the later they are planted, the longer their season. But we had an unusually cool summer here in Dallas. Any answers?
Thanks, Pat
Caladium planting time
I am in zone 8b and I have some caladiums too. Your caladiums will probably stay pretty until your first frost. Mine die back in winter due to the cold and frosty temps but they come back in spring.
I figure your caladiums have done better due to the cooler summer and more rain than usual. We had a lot of rain and that really boosted most of my plants.
Thanks, DanceyTX. Sorry for the late reply, I forgot about my post.
I was hoping my caladiums were still perky because of the late planting, but I'm sure you're right about the cooler summer and excess rain. It might be fun to experiment next season and stagger planting times to see what happens.
Thanks, again.
Good idea! I may try that myself. ;)
