Morning Glories 2007 #27

Judith - Those are all beautiful! I especially like the photo with all 3 blooms! So pretty! I can't imagine 38 degree weather. It's in the 80s here and it seems like Fall! I am glad to see the temps cool off a little bit here finally. Nice to know they still bloom when temps dip as low as yours are going! Awesome!!!

I heard on the news this morning that Colorado had its first snow! We have land there, but we don't live there. Its just a summer vacation spot.

Judith,

This one is incredible at the bottom of the photo.
WOW!

PLEASE tell me when you tagged these that you were very specific about that bloom.
You need to grow that one out for sure next year.

Becky . . .
Nice Solid Chocolate Blooms.
I miss not growing those this year.
You should get bunches of seeds from this one.

It was cold here this morning too, none of the MGs had pollen on them this morning, it was 7:AM, so maybe I was too early.. I don't know.

Pretty flowers everyone..

Beth, just snow in the high country, not in Denver...thank God!

Emma, I did tag each one individually. Wish I had more yarn, I'd tag all the rest of them too. And I wish I'd thought to tag the Hatsu Arashi which I loved. Didn't occur to me. Although I've grown MGs for the last five years I didn't know much about what I was doing till I read this forum. I'm learning a lot this year!

Gorgeous flowers all. Revclaus if you have masking tape, just write your descrip-
tion and place right below the seed pod or where ever. I use it sometimes.
Just leave an inch or so blank on one end or the other so you can wrap it
around once or twice.

Ditto Jackie,
I was going to say the same thing.

Nice blooms you guys!
We had a hard frost two nights ago (27 F) and I lost the last of my Morning Glories outside. I'm not too too sad - we could have had a hard frost much earlier than now.

On the plus side, my Heavenly Blue MG is still going strong in the house!

Lol Emma, we do have to be creative at times. So far I've had good luck with the tape and don't even bother with the yarn anymore.

Any way that gets the job done is the right way I say. :)

I love that double white hige. Those are becoming some of my favorites.

This a recent find and is a double kikyo and has a variegated geen leaf.

I have this kikyo doubles pack from Japan, and haven't even opened it yet...next year!

Judith - Because I have to leave so early in the morning, I use the masking tape, too. But instead of writing info on the tape .... I have a number and letter system that I use per each cultivar. IF a bloom is really unusual, I write down the particulars and a photo ID# on a sheet of paper .... which I hope to eventually transfer all this info to my computer for traceability. As an example ..... with Karen's Blizzard grow-out, I have both solid and blizzard vines all growing together. When I mark a solid bloom I use a #1. If it is a blizzard bloom I write #2. And if there are any unusual blooms that I really like, I assign a unique number to it for cross referencing that will also match the picture # that I assign for it. It's really hard to write a lot of info on a small piece of tape, so this works out much better for me and I can write down the particulars later when I have time after work.

Karen - Your double kikyo are so oriental looking! By the name, I assume they are Japanese MGs? Love everything about the blooms and I love that these vines have the variegated leaves. Just another bonus!!! :-)

Beth - Ooooh! Can't wait to see your grow-out of the kikyo doubles pack from Japan. Love the red in the package photo! I hope you get red and lots and lots of seeds! :-)

Bloom #2 of my new mystery vine. Looks just like the first bloom. Kinda neat looking pattern and colors. Small bloom and solid green leaves.

becky, thanks for the compliment on the photos... no, I don't get up that early, it's my camera, if it didn't work it self, I don't know what I'd do..lol. just luck.. I take the photos throughout the day, mostly in the morning at about 8 AM and some later, depends on what I'm doing, I try to get them before the MGs close. Thanks again.. A.

Okay Beth,
Quit teasing me..

Emma this one http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=4017751 came from seeds marked akatsuki no yume, I really don't know what it is but I love it. This one came from the same pack of seeds.

This gray one that came from Chacha seeds keeps popping up. I don't know if it was a cross or just mixed up seeds.

I can see the stigma just protruding over the upper lewft edge of the tube...without hand pollination this may not produce seeds...and I realize that with the number of plkants that you have you can only hand pollinate a select few because with watering and other everyday living activities there just aren't enough hours in the day to do it all...

Revclaus-Judith - This one looks like an interesting pink purpurea

...try to show the sepals(!) on ID's in question if at all possible...

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=4014467
the top darker one is a nil and the bottom one maybe a nil also...I can just see a sepal and it looks elongated but the angle can skew the actual shape...

Candy Pink should have a solid throat...

there is a mixture of I.nil and purpurea visible in this photo

Beth - "I like the pure white purpureas. Are they the ones called pearly gates, or is that a tricolor?"

Pearly Gates is I.tricolor

Karen-05 - Nice tight striations
