16. last one, I've got a couple of white purpurea plants and this is one of them, the others in another pot are not opening up very well, and the tube is longer on the others.

Patootie, no P. Bush has not thrown any more solids and I did not mark the first couple of flowers, I wish I had.

I like the pure white purpureas. Are they the ones called pearly gates, or is that a tricolor?

Mesilla Park, NM

Hi Beth,
Pearly Gates has a yellowish throat/eye/center, the ones up there are really on the smallish side and have purpurea seeds, where I think pearly gates had the tricolor longer seeds. Here is a photo of pearly gates.. these were sold to me as Scarlett Ohara a couple of years ago, sorry for posting it again.. just want to show you.

A funny story, here... I thought that all purpureas were purple when I first started to garden, now I know that the color has nothing to do with the name purpurea..lol. I remembered that when I saw these small white ones that I posted up above.

I have some of the white purpureas growing, but didn't grow any white tricolor this year. I KNOW I have a package somewhere that says Pearly Gates!

Emma, congrats on your Photo-of-the day 9/24!

Mesilla Park, NM

How neat, where can we see the photo's of the day?
A.

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

Its at the bottom of the home-page, down where the B-days are.

Maybe I'm wrong....maybe it just comes up as a random image because it's different now. I thought it was a DAILY random image, but now I think it's a random image every time you go to your homepage.

Oh Darn . . .
I missed it too.
Mine comes up in my Top Right.
I think it may be the way you have your home page set up.

What photo was it Beth?

Emma

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

It was your hederacea that came up on my home page. I checked now and it is already different. I don't know how often they change the random photo. I was so suprised to see a mg!

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks Beth,
I don't know how often they change the photos either, but I do know it is now very frequently.

Antoinette . . .
Thanks re Jamie Lynn and Higes.
I have you down for those to send you seeds

Here is one of my President Bush Blooms. None that I grew stayed True, but they were all very pretty. This one is a Very Pale Mauve-Pink

Emma, thank you...
Yes, P. Bush is making alot of seeds.. wooohooo.. and it is so pretty too. I didn't sow the rest of the seeds, this is just one seed, I wonder what the others would have been like? I'll grow the 3 seeds that were left, this coming season. If I had know that MGs would bloom this quick by sowing them in Jun or July, I would have planted more (several more). Next year I'll know better. I'm looking forward to growing yours from my last trade too, I've got some Youjiros that you sent me in 2005 (but I did not know what they were until this year), oh well.. Now I know.

A.

P.S.

Emma, got you down for those too. I have daylillies on my brain today.

Thanks Antoinette,
Bet your other President Bush seeds will all have different Blooms.
These are becoming fascinating.

Just like the Lady Laura Blooms. Did I send you seeds of these?
These too are all different, but oh so pretty.

Here is only one of several different vines from this year.

This Bloom looks like Taffeta

oooh that is a nice rich color.. Yes, I grew Lady Laura, very ruffly and nice size too. Also, Have the Acapulco BLue, it is growing very well, but no buds yet.

Here is Lady Laura this year, the plant is no longer blooming now. flowers from 7-11-07

I've learned so much here on this forum about MGs and the most important thing that I've learned is that fertilizer is NOT THE SAME as Bloom Booster.. even though I've grown so many varieties, I really don't know a whole lot, but I'm learning and Ron has helped me alot too to understand certain functions of the plant parts..

Let me know if you want some of the small white pupurea seeds, so that I can tag them. They are tangled up with pink purpurea flowers.

Antoinette,
Very Nice Lady Laura Blooms.
Yes, I would like some of your White Purpureas, Thanks!

I agree, I just BLOOM BUSTERED my last crop that I'm growing,
and they are developing a lot of seed pods now

Here is another Lady Laura Bloom

I know why Arlan refers to these as asagao dancers. This blue willow dianthus appears to dance if there is a light breeze.

Emma and Antoinette - I can't get over your Lady Laura blooms! Emma that last one you posted as a white edging that is so pretty. My "Pink Form" Lady Laura is a solid color and a genuine eye catcher. I have a couple more seeds left and am thinking I should grow another one out to see what I get. Love the surprises!!!

A - All of the above posted pics are beautiful!!! Do you take the photos very early in the morning before the sun is up? Love the darker background! Really makes the blooms pop out!!!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Karen - Is your blue willow dianthus a MG? How pretty!!!

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

Yes, it is a mutant Japanese morning glory ipomoea nil. It came form a bag of unknown seeds I bought from komeri on ebay this past year. The seeds looked like tan purpurea seeds and boy what a surprise to see ipomoea nil seedlings and one very strange cotyledon. Arlan identified it for me as as willow dianthus and then the color was apparent later on. These mutant strains are all new to me and what fun. This one is still blooming though it is slowing down.

Karen

Karen - That is so amazing!!! The name threw me which is why I asked. Has it produced many seeds? I noticed some of mine are readily producing seeds and other vines have very few seed pods on them. Any secrets to jump-starting seed production on a MG vine?

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

The parent flowers can make seeds and these fancy blue willow only have pollen. I`m transferring pollen from the willow dianthus to the vines having ability to make seeds so I can preserve the line.

You can check your flowers for the needed reproductive parts and see that pollen is present for a clue as to if they should be setting seeds. If you do not see pollen being released or there are incomplete parts then you may have to help pollinate some varieties to get seeds. Karen

This is the last one which I believe is Hannahabuki or something related to it.

Thanks for the advice, Karen.

Oooooh! This is a nice one! http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=4014425

I just planted a seed for Hannahabuki. Most of the seeds I plant are new to me so I have no idea what the flowers might look like until they bloom! Neat to see a photo of something I just planted! Lovely!!!

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

The variety is extremely overwhelming and makes this hobby a keeper. You think you have seen the prettiest one and then one morning yet another bloom sweeps you off your feet. :)

I hear ya, Karen! My only other wish would be that they bloom all day instead of wilting after just a few hours! That would be the ultimate!!! :-)

I wish they'd last through frost! Temp is going down to 38 tonight. That's a little too close for my comfort.

Here's another one I love. I've only had about three blooms over the last month, but they're all tagged.

And another. Here's the pink and a similar bloom that bloomed together today. Beats me what they are. They're not on the same vine.

Another unidentified three I've tagged. One is my blue picotee (not a name, just a description).
