How To Grow Grass in Dry Climate?

I Live in a very dry area, the soil is very dry and I am wondering what the best method for planting grass would be, or should I use turf??

There are some grasses that are better suited for dry climates, it would help to know what area of the country you're in, then someone who lives near you can probably recommend some specific types of grass that would do well for you. The key is to get the right type of grass for your climate. No matter where you live or what type of grass you get, you can start grass from seed or plugs or you can put down sod, but however you do it, you're going to have to water regularly as the sod or plugs get established or as the seeds sprout and grow, so if you're on water restrictions or something and can't water frequently, you may not want to install a lawn now. Even grass that does OK in dry climates will still need to be watered regularly even after it's established (unless you're willing to let it go dormant during the summer), so if you live in a really dry area you may want to consider not having a lawn (I don't have one and couldn't be happier!)

TimmyTime, I live in the Phoenix Az area where it's pretty dry. Our best bet here is bermuda grass although there are a few others that will take off with some TLC! The main problem with bermuda is that it is everywhere and you will have to pay attention so it doesn't take over your flower beds. We watered every other day after it was established and allow it to die in the winter most of the time but may try a winter seed this year.
Good luck!

Klauer, there are certain types of plants you can plant that repel cats from certain areas. Sorry, I don't know which kind it is but it might be worth looking into!

klauer--you might want to start your own thread, since this thread is about growing grass there may be a lot of people who don't know anything about grass but do know about keeping cats out of the garden, but they'd never even open this thread.
