my daisies over the summer and now my mums are turning brown at the bud before the bud even blossoms. not all are but i wonder if i could have a fungus, also (bare with me as this is my 1st flower garden)
how do i deadhead mums?
fungus
Do the leaves look like they're dying too? If they look OK, or if they're wilting some but not really dying, then it's probably something more like too much heat or too little water. Or if you planted the plants during the heat of the summer, that's very stressful for them, so they'll often give up on the flower buds and focus on roots instead. If you can post a picture of your plants showing some of the brown buds, that might help figure out what's going on.
You deadhead by just plucking off the bloom itself as it fades (or if a whole bunch are fading at once, you can take the garden shears and just shear across the top of the plant, cutting a bunch of spent blooms off at once).
