Garlic and ?

Pelzer, SC(Zone 7b)

Good Morning, all;

I have an old bathtub, and it's going to be my "garlic planter" to harvest next year. I'll be planting my garlic tomorrow, I think, if I can finsh the prep soaking. My question is whether I can plant something else between the garlic plants (I'll mark them). Maybe something like spinach or Swiss Chard?

Thanks for any thoughts,

Margo

I'm new at this, but I read a book that said that you should be able to interplant those things....Bad companions of garlic are beans and peas...good companions are beets and lettuce. It didn't mention anything about spinach or swiss chard, but I'm assuming since they weren't in the bad list, it should be fine. Good luck!

Were you soaking the garlic? Just curious...

The directions tell me to soak in water and, I think, peroxide (but I don't have them in front of me) overnite, and then in alcohol 3-5 minutes, and that;s the main reason they're not "in" yet....I keep forgetting at nite. I put it on my phone alram clock, so maybe tonite.....

Hmmmm, I've never pre-soaked garlic and mine seems to grow just fine. I'll be looking for your results next year!

Hi Darius,
I had never thought of soaking it. either, until I read the directions (which, for once, I did:). I paid so much for this, that I figure I'll do it their way. I don't know if it's because it's "cajun" garlic, maybe that's got something to do with it.
I'll try to remember to post the results.

Tomatoes are good companions for garlic. The Garlic helps keep away certain pests from the tomatoes.
