I'm fairly new to this zone, we moved from CT last September. I've missed escarole since we moved, can't find it at the grocery stores down here. A friend misunderstood, and bought me arugula seeds, which I know, like escarole, is a cool weather crop. Anyone in my zone with arugula experience, when should I plant the seeds? Our nights have gotten deliciously cool, but the days are still pretty hot, so I'm thinking I still have a wait.......
Arugula in zone 8a, when to start seeds?
I do not grow Arugula, but if it has growing conditions similar to spinach, mustard, turnips rutabaga etc, I start the fall planting after Labor Day and continue to the middle of October.
I had sort of figured that, but wasn't sure, especially with it being so hot and humid still!! We had a few lovely cooler days last week and I got the soil ready for the seeds, and now the temp has climbed back up again. Maybe I should hold off a little while longer, til it cools down again?
