My first triple seedling

Victoria, BC(Zone 8a)

Awwww I wanna see that little beauty! ;-(

Fenton, MI(Zone 5b)

grrrrrnthumb and scooterbug are correct. You are a true gentle man
green. You were so kind to say what you said in such delicate fashion. And scooter bug you put the icing on the cake by telling it like it is!!
The unscrupulous people in this world ruin it for us all. Yes every one would like a cutting for a fee. Chances it will fall into some person out to cash in on others ---100%. It happens with everything these days. The
evil buggars ruin all the trust and fun in the world. Intergrity and honor
seem to be words with no meaning.
Their are standards for breeding a plant and this cross does not meet those standards. How much nicer could it be said??? It still is a
beautiful impressive flower for those of us not interested in the perfection
but in the pure beauty of the flower.

"It still is a
beautiful impressive flower for those of us not interested in the perfection
but in the pure beauty of the flower. "

And I believe the majority of the people on this thread have said that that is what they are interested in.

PLEASE GIVE IT A REST!!!!!

Hello Yardqueen. :) You know, this is an open forum where people come to discuss brugs. If you disagree with someone you should, for sure, tell them why. But it really doesn't work well here to try and prevent someone from talking by yelling and shouting them down with caps and exclamations. That is very angry speech when written like that, and It usually has the opposite effect. It's also not kind to our threadstarter to drag down a reasonable discussion into just a yelling match. I sure hope we can continue on with the peace and prosperity Dave mentioned in his Brug Forum sticky thread. Kind regards. :)

Please don't accuse me of being unkind to our threadstarter... I am just tired of all the arguing on this forum. I don't think that any other forum has this kind of problem. And don't tell me to just not come here if I am tired of the arguing. I love brugs and enjoy seeing and posting pictures of them. I enjoy the way people on this forum help each other when they have a question about their brug. I love the kind generosity and the eagerness to help a newbie get started. Yes the forum is an open one in which we all should be able to share our opinions, and even disagree. But to turn what was a sharing of pictures into an argument is something else.

I am not trying to start a yelling match, so don't accuse me of that. I would be the last person to want to start any kind of match, since I feel it it much more pleasant to enjoy harmony and friendship. I did not mean the caps to be yelling but used them for emphasis. For me, the use of the caps and exclamations was a plea, a begging to just let the aruing stop. If caps mean yelling then I apologize for that, and for not being up to date on computer language since I am a 60 yr old woman who is having to catch up with the new generation. (I only found out last year what ROTFLOL, DH, etc mean)

In case you have not noticed, our threadstarter has disappeared before I ever posted a word, even though the majority of the people on this thread have asked for her to come back and post more pics... To view her pics is why the majority of us have visited this thread. Since you are concerned about her as the threadstarter, and only meant to be kind to her, perhaps you should have started your own thread to discuss the selling of deformed brugs and those interested in that topic could visit that thread. But insteaad you chose to post this topic on her thread as if to rub her nose in it. Maybe that was not your intention, but obviously it was the effect, because she is no longer posting on her thread.

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Yeah. And I'm with tussee - see ya around...

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Well, I'm curious... what double or triple brug out there IS perfect and performs exactly like it is described every single flower with never a deformity or color variation that is less than perfect?

AND what brug's first ever bloom is perfectly uniform and sets the standard for all the blooms to follow?

edited to remove a remark that was in bad taste.

"But to turn what was a sharing of pictures into an argument is something else."

Yardqueen perhaps you might consider that one a little more. If a threadstarter were to dissapear, do you think it would be from an honest but kind discussion of the plant, or do you think it would more likely be from some individuals name-calling and and others angrily arguing and telling people not to talk anymore? C'mon, let's get back to discussing brugs. :)

ZZ, to answer your question, remember up above where I advocated waiting a little longer to keep trying with others from this cross to get the same attributes in a brug not so heavily deformed? I was thinking maybe a couple years of patience. It turns out she may have possibly only had to wait about a week. Here is the link: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/779109/ Best wishes. :)

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Yeah.. I didn't even think of that one Tom! I saw that post and adored that flower too. That was a double, and this was a triple, so I didn't associate the two... I am so happy that she is getting such good potential from her cross.
I totally respect and appreciate your input Tom, (as well as scooterbug and AuntB) I am a newbie and have no business making any statements as to sound like anything other than that... a newbie, thristy for brug knowledge.
Well, then let me ask this.. Is there a triple that isn't deformed?

Kingston, OK(Zone 7a)

Tussee thank you for showing us your pride and joy and I definitely would not throw them out of my garden.
I love your home extension and what a view and collection you will have. Ted

Marysville, WA(Zone 8a)

ZZ the triples, as a group, are pretty new. Quite often the first skirt out of the 3 is really a deformed calyx mixed with a few of the genes for a corolla. Everywhere except Ebay that makes them in reality a double, not a true triple. I don't know of a perfect one, but Masquerade looks promising. I haven't grown it myself. :)

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Thankz Tom! I have wondered about that for a while now..
I have a few "triple" or "quad" seedlings and they are grossly deformed or can't hold buds.. I'm getting frustrated with them quickly. I would much rather have several full flushes of nice single blooms rather than wait for months for a deformed triple!

Victoria, BC(Zone 8a)

That makes perfect sense ZZ. I too, would like a full flush about 7 times per season! LOL!!!

Wait a minute... was I talking poker? Oh, no, that's a royal fush. Forgive me.

Please disregard this post.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL @ Teresa.. you silly.. LOL

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Thought some of you might like to see an update on this seedling one year later. It still retains the orange marbling but has settled into a double flower, with a nice calyx. Moral of story: Always give a seedling with unusual attributes at least two years to prove or disprove its merits.

But it's still absolutely beautiful!

Very pretty!
I love the marbeled look!

I love this plant whether it is double or triple, it's gorgeous.

Magnetic Island, Australia(Zone 11)

Tussee, this is a graceful and beautiful double, even if it started as a triple. I've just started the seed expedition and my, it surely feels like that. I've got absolutely hundreds, of little Angels everywhere. What to do with them all ?

Thanks so much for updating and coming in to show us how this seedling has grown.

What smell does she have?

It is very beautiful ...congratulations, we would just about faint if something like that appeared over here ...we are working on it and this has been an inspiration to all of us.(as specially as we stand on the frontier of Brugmansia expansion here in Australia...)
Thankyou.

Everyone...sigh...your dear words of approval surely are appreciated. From this seedling's beginning I have enjoyed, no, have been excited, with its distinctive coloring and full blown fluffiness...a true girly-girl flower unlike any brug. bloom in the garden. I grow many of the so called best varieties available so that is saying a lot. This is the first flower to open while I was home, but I'm told the others were just as nice. No one recalls seeing a triple. :(

Tussee

Brookhaven, PA(Zone 6b)

Beautiful, couldn't agree with you more tussee. sometimes it takes 2 or 3 years for a seedling to prove it merits.

tusseemussee,

That is a beauty! I'm thinking about growing Brugs now after seeing your pictures. What about the huge dark orange one from the same cross? How is that one doing a year later?

Are Brugs poison?

Thanks!

April

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

That's beautiful! I would love to have a cutting some day when it is mature enough to be trimmed. That's a beauty!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Tussee!! Thanks for the update! Congratulations! It is a marvelous brug! Aunt_A, yes all parts are poisonous. Just don't get any part of them on your mouth or juice from them in a cut... wash your hands after working with them... their beauty and enjoyment long surpass the poison part for me... but I don't have children or pets that could be in danger... but then tomato plants are poisonous too.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

pphil1, so nice to hear from someone who has developed so many good brugs.

Aunt_A, the other orange brug. from this same cross has had a rough summer...mites almost did her in, but yesterday I noticed a number of small buds have finally formed. I'll bring her into the sunroom just to see and photo the blooms, as our weather is beginning to really cool down.

Texasgal177, thanks for taking the time to write...glad you like her.

AuntB, good to hear from you also. You are one thoughtful and warm lady...I still remember your message of encouragement when I was been bombarded, lol. People like you are the icing on the cake!

I will not be able to respond for a while, so do not think I am ignoring. I'm having surgery this afternoon and will be limited in my movements. Nothing serious, just necessary.

Tussee

Premont, TX(Zone 9b)

Tussee that brug is still beautiful, just like its owner
praying all goes well with your surgery ..Take care!

Good luck with your surgery! Take care of yourself!

Jeanne

Yes good luck I hope all goes well for you so you can soon hurry home to your beautiful blooms.

Brookhaven, PA(Zone 6b)

Thanks for the compliment Tusse, that really means alot right now!!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Thank You Tussee, hope you're doing well up there... Is there a registered marbley one? It's just to die for! Congrats again...

Chesapeake Beach, MD

I know what I am looking for in a brug:

Pretty flower
Reliable and frequent bloomer
Nice, strong fragrance
Shape/clolor that is pleasing to me

Doesn't require perfect symetry - no such thing in nature.

Tussie's flower fits the bill.
