Dianthus - many varieties - I'm not guessing. Haven't saved those seeds either.

You can winter sow the seed. I haven't collected the seed, as it's pretty small
but these dianthus are perennial all the way. Make sure they are well
established before winter and they should survive. I had 1/4 in of ice on
my dianthus flowers last year, and they just keep on going! It was amazing
to view blooms perfectly frozen in time.

The seeds are in the dead flower. The plants will come back year after year. The plant will get wider each year. They need room to spread out to get wider or it is called multiplying. When did you plant it? I have about 20 plants.

I planted them in a long planters box,,,,,, they were on clearance,,,didnt think they would even grow,,,,,Should I harvest what seeds i can and plant them in the ground? The flowers i mean?

I got quite a few seeds from my dianthus this year....mine are perrenial too....I planted them from seeds a long time ago(seeds said annual). This is the first year they bloomed because silly me didn't think sun requirements meant all that much and planted them in the shade....this year I moved them and they bloomed very well. The seeds will from the old flower....they are a bunch of tiny, round black seeds. The petals will fall off and there will be a little pod thing at the bottom. Eventually, they'll start to open up and you can see the seeds in them.....
