Bought farm - Just starting Rock Garden on bank behing house. One side has cluster of trees so there is shade and sun. I started spraying to kill everything to start fresh and stopped when i saw a few plants on bank. More weeds than plants - should I kill everything to start fresh? I am also going to put stong steps into the steep bank that leads to the barn and horse paddock.
Rock Garden is new to me - never created one before.
Rock Garden
Make sure you use a week killer that allows you to plant, some are total vegatation killers.
I would probably pull it all up and start wtih a clean slate, and amend the soil before planting.
There are lots of low maintenance perennials that I've seen planted in rock gardens creeping down the sides of the rocks, looks awesome!
I particularly like the creeping phlox, has a woodsy look to the foliage, spring flowers are my fav.
I've been trying to create a rock garden, but doesn't really work, because I don't have a sloping hill.
Good luck :)
