missing everybody

Loved the speedways as a teen ....got lots of goggles from the drivers....the dirty ones they tossed aside.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Guess we all have our car stories. I was the flag girl for the street drags, bobby sox and all. We were just kids when we married in '61...Mike had a black and white "56 hardtop....he is still greiving over it. He loves your car, John. Started his moaning all over again. There was a show in Maypearl, Texas today of collector cars.....just as we got to it, they all cranked up and left. Well, different thread. Forgot to say we went to a flea market that is called 35mile Antique Alley......not many antiques....lots of garage sales..the usual.....but it is on an old back road that starts at Waxahachie goes to Maypearl to Grandview and then to Cleburne....200 side roads with garage sales everywhere. We just had a good time. Went with our friends and laughed all day. Wouldn't we all have a good time somewhere besides cyberspace? I think so. Borrowed some seed from an exceptional morning glory. ........tomorrow...

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Oh my you have all been so busy! I Love the car John! Reminds me of my first love...a 64 Chevy Impala....my how I loved that car!

Collections? Dragons, music, books, old movies....DH collects Flags from everywhere we've been. And we collect christmas ornaments together. Try to find one every place we go....lots of fun at Christmas time.

West Bay, Cayman Islands(Zone 11)

Shari, do you accept ornaments from others or do you guys have a rule that you have to visit a place before you get an ornament from there???? Please advise...

j

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, inquiring minds want to know. Saw lots of ornaments yesterday but I no longer even decorate for Christmas so didn't look closely.

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

We gladly accept ornaments from friends! It takes us forever to put up our Christmas tree, because we spend so much time remenising...but that's part of the fun for us. Christi - do you go somewhere? Is that why you don't decorate? I can just see you, hair pulled up in a ponytail, scarf tied around it....

Flea Markets are as much fun as Farmer's Markets!

John, don't you have some race pictures you could post here??

Chrissy - DH and I collect the old vinyl's as well...and you aren't gonna believe this girl - your red wine decanter and glasses....I have the same pattern in a saki decanter and tiny sake cups! It was my father's, and when he asked who wanted it I jumped! Turned out it was too delicate for my brother's anyway, and I use it for liquers.

Ha ha ha Soul Sister Soul Sister!!!!

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

♫♫Gittchy gittchy ya ya♫♫ Just realized this thread is called "missing everybody"...so no real topic....we can talk about anything we want!!! No OT!!!! Come on folks....tea in China? Vintage cars?? Old Movies??? What's everyone doing today? John, still got a fried Modem? That's a drag! I hate not being able to chat with you.... Most embarrasing computer moments????

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

Not doing anything today. Just replanted a clematis plus planted mums in front to provide some more shade for the rest of the season. Got them for $.87 today at Wally World. Have no clue what color it will be so that will be a suprise.

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Suprises are always fun! I have several orchids that haven't bloomed yet, and I'm really hoping they will be colors I don't yet have. This is hilarious....here we have a completely open thread, and what are we now talking about? Gardening!!!!

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Ahem....this is my thread and everyone is invited to go off topic as many times as you want.

I can never seem to stay on topic even face to face.

Sending out invites to the family "DO' this weekend....bigger than Ben Hur......it goes all day and well into the night! love it but tired just thinking about it......it always falls on the footy Grand Final night so a big telly is set up and everyone ends the night chomping on bbq sausages on bread roll while everyone boos or cheers for the two sides.....made more sweet chilli sauce this morning my eyes are stinging a bit ...but it is really good stuff my nephew is comming to nick some....he reckons he puts it on everything...back into the garden

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Sounds like the Super Bowl.

Cochise, AZ(Zone 8b)

Gitcha gitcha ya ya??

Okay I have to tell you about the time I met Patti Labelle. Yes, I did. In the late seventies I called into a radio station and entered a contest to win free tickets to her concert and I won!
So the night of, me and my sister went down and were escorted into the lobby before the show started and who walks out but Mrs. Labelle herself! I was so stunned all I could do was stare wide eyed with my mouth hanging open like some foolish star crazed fan. She saw us standing, waiting to be seated and smiled and said Hello.

I could not even get words out my mouth. I seemed to be frozen and couldnt even move. She looked puzzled and turned to someone and said "Whats wrong with her"? Her and her entourage disappeared as quickly as they appeared. My sister and I didnt recover until it was too late. What dorks we were, LOL. Oh well, the concert was great none the less.

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

That would happen only if George Clooney, Matt Damon, Trace Adkins, and a few others and I met up. Only then! LOL

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

I have always adored Ms. LaBelle! Talk about OT! She's the Queen of don't follow the crowd! And always such a big heart! I probably would have bombarded her with questions so fast that not a one would have been understandable! Same result "What's wrong with her?" Ha ha. Don't know if this is going to work, but thought you guys (Sorry Pepper - you won't get some of these!) would get a kick out of these Statements from the 50's.:

Only 52 years ago!
Comments made in the year 1955..

"I'll tell you one thing, if things keep going the way they are, it's going to be impossible to buy a week's groceries for $20."

"Have you seen the new cars coming out next year? It won't be long before $2000 will only buy a used one."

"If cigarettes keep going up in price, I'm going to quit. A quarter a pack is ridiculous."

"Did you hear the post office is thinking about charging a dime just to mail a letter?"

"If they raise the minimum wage to $1, nobody will be able to hire outside help at the store."

"When I first started driving, who would have thought gas would someday cost 29 cents a gallon. Guess we'd be better off leaving the car in the garage."

"Kids today are impossible. Those duck tail hair cuts make it impossible to stay groomed. Next thing you know, boys will be wearing their hair as long as the girls."

"I read the other day where some scientist thinks it's possible to put a man on the moon by the end of the century. They even have some fellows they call astronauts preparing for it down in Texas ."

"Did you see where some baseball player just signed a contract for $75,000 a year just to play ball? It wouldn't surprise me if someday they'll be making more than the president."

"I never thought I'd see the day all our kitchen appliances would be electric. They are even making electric typewriters now."

"It's too bad things are so tough nowadays. I see where a few married women are having to work to make ends meet."

"It won't be long before young couples are going to have to hire someone to watch their kids so they can both work."

"Marriage doesn't mean a thing any more; those Hollywood stars seem to be getting divorced at the drop of a hat."

"I'm just afraid the Volkswagen car is going to open the door to a whole lot of foreign business."

"Thank goodness I won't live to see the day when the Government takes half our income in taxes. I sometimes wonder if we are electing the best people to congress."

"The drive-in restaurant is convenient in nice weather, but I seriously doubt they will ever catch on."

"There is no sense going to Lincoln or Omaha anymore for a weekend. It costs nearly $15 a night to stay in a hotel."

"No one can afford to be sick any more; $35 a day in the hospital is too rich for my blood."

"If they think I'll pay 50 cents for a hair cut,
forget it."

Know friends who would get a kick out of these?

Pass it on!

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

I know some of those!! We still use them in around here. lol

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

My favorite: "I read the other day where some scientist thinks it's possible to put a man on the moon by the end of the century. They even have some fellows they call astronauts preparing for it down in Texas ."

Makes one realize how much we have accomplished is such a relatively short time!

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

[quote] "It won't be long before young couples are going to have to hire someone to watch their kids so they can both work."[ /quote]

How prophetic............

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

Is anyone else having problems bringing up the homepage? My blue box quote didnt even work today??????????

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

No troubles here Joyce. What are you seeing??

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

My homepage wont load. keep getting a blank page. Hit refresh and nothing. I have to go to forums and click on tropical????

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Try logging out, and then back in.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Yeah, my bluebox didn't work either. Dave says something happened about 3:30 AM our time this morning and the server went down again. Probably a few residuals left from that.
Hate to admit it but some of those quotes are a decade or two ahead of my experiences.....oh yuck. What a thing to admit. My first car was a used '59 VW. Only thing we could get in the states. Germany wouldn't send new cars here. gasoline was 17 cents a gallon.....everything is relative. I made 90 cents an hour and was well paid for a 17 year old.

night, night.

PS My dad died in 1993 at age 73. He never believed man went to the moon. Said it all took place on Hollywood sound stage. Didn't trust the government....wooooo. He got that part right.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Joyce, check Dave's forum. He may have a report on there.

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Hittin the sack early tonight? Yep, Dad got that part right! Ooops....we aren't talking about that ....nope, nope, nope.

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

Lou
My dad said the same thing! Good to know he wasnt the only one. Said how come we never went back?..........uhmmmm

Gonna checks Dave's. Thanks.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

In the long run it becomes more obvious all the time..... We are all cut from the same cloth.

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Yeah!!!! Good Morning.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

And Texas is 3rd. I've been pushing and shooving and did everybody ever get to running.

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Aha! Divided loyalties! Texas doesn't need you, we do! Ha ha! Just kidding, the Texas forum is always so active! Makes perfect sense though, Texas being as big as it is...lots of DGers since it started there!!

Haven't looked at the newsletter yet....always come here first. I'll go give it a look see.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

I'm not interested in a competition. I love this forum like no other..Texas is home. With the great number of differences we have all over the state there were only a few posting and a lot of lurkers. Lots of people active this month.....so glad. Where is Janet? Too early to be on the deer lease.....season doesn't open until Nov.1st.

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

I think I read on one of the other threads that she hadn't been feeling well?? Thought she said she was getting better...Hope everything is okay with her.

Lou C post a link to where you are in Texas mate so we can visit....I promise to be good!.....honest.....ha ha ha
Congrats on the stats guys ....we all know that it isn't about "ratings"
however I have read that people had to push to get this forum so good on everyone!
