Chrissy, be thankful you don't have feathers EVERYwhere! The little white ones drive me nuts - they have a life of their own and run from you when you try to get them! :-)
missing everybody
I figure because they are "ancient" the dust looks "authentic" ha ha ha .....my brother alaways says you women and your dust collecters!.........I don't know ....I kinda love my little bits and pieces
...oh yes Egyptian has always been a fasination with me too...and with most folk I think.....I was lucky enough to visit a collection bought to Australia a few years ago....it was wonderful!
What touched me to the core was not the beautiful golden and jewelled items...but the little personal things like a hair comb ...a pair of worn sandals and an ancient version of a makeup kit...little tiny pots that had contained the various eye colours and rouges...the little brushes and the perfume containers....I came away in a daze...clutching a cd that played what was considered and replicated music of that era....I have just about worn it out ...also a vial of a scented oil that was copied from an original recipe found in a tomb......so if you want to smell like an Ancient Egyptian ....guess what...it was made from cinnamon! and if you buy the essential cinnamon oil and break it down with a little sweet apricot oil...there you have it!
We do have a connection with their worship of the scarab....the scarab rolls up the "poo" mainly camel I guess.... and takes it down into the earth and there it fertilizes the soil and in some cases produces new plants from the seeds in the you know what!...the Egyptians saw the new healthy growth in a barren place as a mystery...that was attributed to the scarab.....well as gardeners we all know about the mystery of manure!....that hippo doo must have been pretty good too since it made the Nile so fertile!
♫♫Smelll like an Egyptian.....♫♫ My DD works with essential oils all the time, and I just love the lasting scent of some of them...
K - I don't have little white feathers, but I have two basically white cats that shed constantly in our heat....combine that with sand....I vaccuum a LOT!! And when I've been on this pooter too long, I am constantly reminded just by walking across the floor, that some things around the house just really need to be done!
You need a Roomba, Shari! Mine is called Tillie2 - after my mom's, she's the one who got me onto it. She had one white Eskimo and a ginger red Pom who shed like crazy, too. The dogs are gone now, but she has a little cat who plays with the machine. She turns it on, then lies down in front of it so it bumps her. Mom has a remote to turn it off.
Tillie2 gets some of the feathers, but lots of them run from her, too! It's a lifesaver for me, though, as I vacuum nearly every day.
I think my two would kill it! They do not ...I repeat NOT .... like anything living in their house other than the two humans they allow to care for them! They even growl when I get out the vaccuum! When he was younger, I had one of those squarish flat ones, and he would jump on it and ride around batting at it and at the hose every time something made a noise going through it. I'd laugh myself into a 2 Depends fit watching him. Now he just growls at my upright, and gets on something high to lurk. But do they really work?
They do! Mom got hers when they first came out - she felt bad about my sister having to vacuum her house so often. She had problems with it for a while, but the company was very good about replacing it or sending her parts. The admitted it was a new product and the support was great. She has a newer one now and has no trouble with it. Mine has needed a few tweaks, too, but I bought it on special from Hammacher Schlemmer with a lifetime guarantee. I believe the newer ones are much more stable. They're not meant for deep cleaning, but work great for daily upkeep. There are new models specially for pets and workshops now, too.
Really OT!
What does everyone collect other than plants???
Mine is red depression glass, which I have quite a large collection of,around 1200 pieces.going price around here is $10 bucks for a cup,or glass,or plate, most of it is red ruby from the 30's and 40's,but have a nice collection of cut red glass as well .
Better go shower!!!!
Never enough time in the day,but like to feel fresh when I hit the sack!!!
Good Lord Chrissy! Those are quite some collections you have!
TM, where on earth do you keep such a huge collection. It must be beautiful with the light shining through all the ruby red!
I have a small collection of Daulton, some of which has been in the family for years; other than that I can't resist books and fabric for making my quilts. Not very exciting collections really compared to the things you guys collect! I am not counting the plants however!
I have been married since I was 16 ...that is a long time to collect stuff!....this house is way too big 6 bedrooms and two lounge areas....too many places to fill I guess... and I haven't even gone near the Library (thousands of books and mags).....cupboards full of videos etc ....it is really only stuff. That glassware was pulled out of the sideboard to take a picture for TM....did you see the little handpainted pig ...that comes from Friuli in Italy it is the traditional pattern of my husbands little village ...yes I collect that too.
Everything was important at the time. Some still is...I would move except for the garden. You have the best treasure of all the living treasure that TM and I and others dream of......sorry I know this is a gardening forum and TM made the mistake of asking me what I have besides the garden. My hand cut crystal is from the 70's when I entertained..... dinner parties every weekend....80's changed that when grandchildren arrived and I got into all things
cottagey and baked and did crafts with the little ones.....Life always changes....so do our interests....I have big camphor chest full of precious mags like Princess Dianna's wedding day and important newspapers as old as 1934.Guess I can't throw things away....I will have to one day.
Oh dear me, Chrissy.....we are definitely sisters. Need to do more genealogy. My collections are too numerous to name but so like yours. Even DH collects the car replicas....mostly of cars he had as a youth. His parents owned a used car lot during the 50-60's and he drove just about everything made. Ahem....this is my thread and everyone is invited to go off topic as many times as you want.
This is just a little bitty corner behind the wet bar. This is his corner of the house.
I collect horse stuff and lighthouses mainly. Then on to books and old vinyl records.
Good morning, pepper. My son has been a horseman since he was 9 years old. Owns 4 now and everything that goes with it. I used to collect for him but he asked me to stop as he has no more room. His wife and two daughters are also very accomplished riders.
I want horses but can't afford them right now. I used to ride alot too but not in the last several years. Trying to get back into it though.
I don't know how he affords feed....but that is the family passion so everyone agrees.
Never was much of a collector. I used to have a collection of elephants but lost it somewhere in a move. And I hate dusting!!!
I collect ancestors instead and have a filing cabinet dedicated just to that end, plus books, maps, software, etc. I have been trying to build a collection of relatives in "pony" pictures. You know, when the man with the pony would come by the house and put the kids on the pony for a photo? My fav is my mom and her sister circa 1920.
K-I have pony pictures with my daughter and then again with her daughter! They are so cute!
Yours is definately a cute little tyke!
Pepper, I too collect lighthouses! Ships, nautical items; China is Moss Rose, and miniatures.....I had a 9 room dollhouse with lights.....It got packed up when we evacuated for Hurricane Rita two years ago, and the little people are still packed away....Someday!
Chrissy I collect dust too! LOL Even the dollhouse needed dusting!

Pony Pictures! What an adorable thing to collect! I think I collect everything I can find two of. Mostly old books (metaphysical, childrens )especially Alice In Wonderland), some first editions, Homer laughlin dinnerwear., american made pottery, Old kitchen aplliances, Singer sewing items, fabric for quilts, cookbooks, advertising glasses( the ones given away in dish detergent boxes), and old sewing machines( which is a long story). Yes, my house needs a good decluttering! Pics later........
Seeing some of these collections is pretty cool....I collect things too...license plates for one....my car collection wont fit on a shelf though....here is the BelAir I restored for my Sister...the car has been in the family since new, but really needed help. Restored to all original, as it came off the showroom floor, at Sargent Chevrolet, in 1955. For payment, my Sister brought me to the Cayman Islands for a holiday as payment...that was in 1994.....the car has held up well since, regretfully sold in 2004.....
never mind...

Gee guys this is so interesting!....I forgot my collection of records going back to....1963....some of the older ones Dad has given me
Frankie Lanes "Cool Clear Water".....think of that song a lot when we have dought. Rawhide etc....Pearly Shells....lots like that...you know the dinner plate records. First beatle songs etc.
Hubby has so many old cars it's not funny (American)
So many things I have forgotten about...remember "not the mamma"
dinosaurs....the family ? pizza hut collections....got them in a cupboard somewhere....little china houses that you put candles in that 'light up".......golly......my brother really was right!...Great fun though :)
All the time I was growing up, my two older brothers were racing cars, dad was building cars in the garage, then one brother turned to building/racing boats and one built/raced midget cars. Then they both built airplanes. Now the elder of the two, who just turned 70, is back to restoring classic cars again. I went to demolition derbies, drag races, concourse in Santa Barbara, motorcycle races, midget races, boat races...you name it. I'm surprised I don't bleed motor oil just from proximity. lol I marry a "foreigner" and what happens? I was introduced to Formula1 racing!
I love watching races. All the boat races, NASCAR, drag, demolition derbies, mud runs, tractor/truck pulls if I can cover my ears, dirt tracks which are my favorite!!
