I am a new at gardening. I have a MBB and at the end of last season it turned black. I cut it back in spring and it regrew, but I had no flowers. What do I do now to winterize, do I cut if back now? If so how much? Can anyone help?
Madame Butterfly Broom
What zone are you in? Plant Files lists it as hardy to zone 6, so if you're a little colder than that you may want to protect it a bit for the winter, or if you're in zone 6 but you're expecting an unusual cold spell you may want to protect it then as well. Since they're spring bloomers, if you cut it back now you probably won't get any flowers next year. If you're going to prune spring bloomers, you have to do it right after they finish blooming.
Here's the Plant Files entry for it, you may find some useful info in there
