Hi Pheadra,

Here in Chicago, the popular fall plants are mums, asters, pansies, and ornamental kale. The kale especially is attractive and really turns heads; however, these tend to be cool weather plants, and I don't know how they would do in your climate. Here are some photos of kale. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/686/

The trees change color here, brillant red and yellow, orange and rust and then the leaves float slowly down. It lasts three weeks perhaps, it has not started yet. The first frost has not come, but soon, soon.

compost. Lots and lots of compost. My idea of heaven!

Minneapolis, MN(Zone 4b)

I think of the color of the leaves, mums, petunas, asters, pansies and kale.
I am thinking of adding some fall blooming bulbs.

Yep! I think, well, I need to plant my daffodils in November.

And I need to dig up my caladiums to bring them inside for the winter.

And I think about planting a few pansy's and ornamental kale to brighten up the brown that's on the way.

But my mums, which I also often think of, had a bad dry, dry year this year, so they're not doing like they should be.

And I think about my holly bushes berries turning red.
