DAILY PICS-VOL. 20

Marlton, NJ

Very, Very Nice photos Dave!!

Are those 2 different Honeysuckles? Your little boy seems to be really enjoing them!

I think I have that same first one

Do you know the name of the second one?

Again great photos!! Pelle.

yes, beautiful photos. You have done such a good job of getting them in focus. They move so fast I always have trouble getting them in focus. When I focus on something near them the hummers are always a little out of focus.

Melbourne, FL

Amazing Hummingbird shots. They really are getting fattened up for their trips South, aren't they?

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

yes nice pics
when I'm taking hummer pics, I just keep snapping and a lot will be out of focus, but I still get some in focus.

Northern, IN

Pelle, the two honeysuckles are Dropmore Scarlet and Gold Flame.

fchisolm, you've hit the nail on the head when it comes to the challenge.

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Dave: Very nice series! All so clear and sharp. (Beautiful honeysuckle, too.)

I can't get over how clear and vivid those photos are! Beautiful, thanks for posting them :-)

Very cute debilu!

Nothing new today. Nothing other than hummers around when I got home from work. Most of the feed I put out this morning was still uneaten. So I searched the yard and found some dove feathers. Walked across the street and asked the neighbor if he had seen any birds(he feeds too). We found dove feathers in his yard too. We decided hawks must have hit the neighborhood this morning. The cardinals, mourning doves and one chickadee finally showed up after sundown. No collared doves at all. They all kept looking up.

It was really to dark to get good pics. I had my camera set on 1600 ISO.

The hummers posed for a couple of hundred pics.

(Pelle, thanks for getting me on the new thread - I'd still be playing by myself on the old one - lol!!!)

Some mighty awesome photos here, folks - such a pleasure to see photos from such different parts of the country.

I posted this on the wrong thread so here it is again. I thought this goofy guy looked like he was singing - maybe "Somewhere Over the Rainbow . . . Bluebirds Fly!" He'd been scratching and stretching and looked a bit tacky.

I captured at few more Sandhill Crane silhouettes, yesterday, than my earlier post. They were much higher also. Is any on willing to try and count them? They were headed south over the Nanana River, shirting around the east side of Mt Mckinley, in the afternoon on Sept. 16, 2007. There was a light rain, and I could hear them long before I finally spotted them. Judging from the mountains they were flying over, they were above 5000 feet.

This is a Northern Shrike, I photographed this morning, 9/17/2007, at mile 49 on the Denali Hwy. There was frost on the windshield this morning, up there, in the high county.

The Northern Shrike flitted from one perch to another. Every perch had a breath taking back ground. I drove 703 miles in two days, just to look at this beauty, one more time.

Nice shrike!

Thanks for the count Resin. There were more, but I couldn't get the stragglers in one picture at 12X.
This is a cropped shot of the Shrike. I spent quite a while chasing him back and forth from one bush to the next, always trying for a closer picture.

Really nice Gary!

It's easy with one of these things!

Got it a while back for counting waders and ducks, I do a local monthly Wetland Bird Survey count. At least on a photo, they're not constantly moving around and changing positions ;-)

The fun starts when you're trying to count ~6,000 Golden Plover . . . and there's a Peregrine hanging around flushing them every time you reach #2,473, or 4,826 . . .

That takes patience. Having to recount would be frustrating. How long does it take to count 6,000?

Birds do have breast!!!

Murmur: What a character that Heron is. Bad hair day for him, but he seems happy anyway. :)
Gras: Thanks for showing the Shrike. I've never seen one "in the feather", so to speak. A lovely bird.
Very few visitors in my yard this evening. There were a couple of hummers arguing over the feeder, but they weren't posing. :)

fchisolm........is that one of the Boobies????

This cardinal must have thought I was it's reflection in the window and was admiring itself.

Since I started putting out some Krunchy Nut I seem to have more cardinals.

My gosh, that's a huge hummer!!! I think her name should be "Hoss." :)
Very nice cardinals, especially the one thinking your reflection was his. :)

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

Great photos Frank! All of them! Not only do you have beautiful birds, but even your dead leaves look good. What a variety of birds!

LOL I don't think they look too good when I have to rake and mulch them. I end up with a ton and a half of leaf mulch. That means I have to keep building more raised beds to get rid of all the compost. I think I could do with a few less trees.

Winter must be getting near..... The bird population around my feeder has dwindled considerably. It's down to about 12 Steller's Jays, 6 Scrub Jays
