We have recently been surprised with growing vegetables. We compost more of our organic food waste and use it in the yard. We started using large pots for the compost and to our surprise we started growing fruits/vegetables. Our first surprise was a melon plant. Our second which is still growing strong is a tomatoe plant. And our third is.. well.. we dont know yet. That is why I am online to try and find out. I searched around the internet looking for a web site which could help me identify what type of vegetable we are growing. Yes.. we are beginners! Any help would be appreciated!
Surprise gardner!
Looks like a cucurbit (Cantaloupe, cucumber, squash) of some sort. Do you remember what you planted? With seedlings it is easier to eliminate possibilities than to positively identify. Members of a family tend to look alike when seedlings.
Well.. thats the surprise part to our garden. We didnt plant anything intentionally, we just started to mix our vegetable leftovers with our coffee grounds on our counter until the coffee can got full and then moved it out into our large pots. We did have zuccini recently and that what we were thinking it is. We dug out a sprout to see the root and it was growing from a seed that look very similer to a sunflower seed but smaller and not as wide. Our surprise tomatoe plant is taking the weather very well here. We live in the pan handle of FL. I hope we can keep it going. We arent sure if we should remove it from the large pot.
