Thanks Christi Lou (~:
Parking Lot
I am sorry about your gandma, I will be praying for you.
Josephine,
Thank you Josephine(~:
I'm praying for your grandmother and you family, too, broncbuster.
Thank you, Marylyn!
I appreciate it, Melanie! The cuphea blooms are gorgeous!
Bronc, I'm sorry about your Grandmother. She is in good hands with Hospice, I know that. Hospice helped my Dad at the end of his long battle with prostate cancer, and those people are a God send. Hang in there.
Carla
Lots of love to you and your family Bronc. My grandmother started radiation last week. She lives in England (just my sister and I in the USA), so I'm flying out to see her next week.
Richard
Thinking of both of you and your grandmothers. Grandparents are such special people in our lives, and I miss mine. Mine were older than the norm when I was born, but I was privileged to have had two grandmothers and one grandfather who thought I was perfect. :>)
Bronc and Richard, surely we each hold a special
bond with our grandparents. It is such a unique
relationship. God bless you and your families as
you work through these sad times. I, too, am keeping
you in my prayers.
Anita
My Nana passed away yesterday. Thank you all for your prayers! Y'all must have been praying for relief for my Nana, because she is not hurting anymore. I know where she is, and i know that if I could call her on the telephone and ask her to come back, she wouldn't even think about it. She has begun her eternal life in heaven, where there are no worries, no aches, no trash, no pollution, no more prescription drugs, and no more sin. She has been made new and without blemish. Can you imagine the kind of plants that are in heaven? Imagine a plant that has zero imperfections. I will miss my Nana, but one day I, too, will join her along with all of you (I hope) in that beautiful garden. At this moment she is walking and talking with Him in that garden. Once again, thank you all for your kind words and prayers, THEY WORKED!!
Amen and what a beautiful day to meet Our Lord in the garden. God bless you.
Oh Bronc! What a beautiful eulogy you have given your Grandmother, we should all be so lucky as to have grandchildren like you.
I see you have great faith, and that is such a consolation at a time like this, your faith will carry you through many trials, but because of it, they will be made bearable and even hopeful.
May the Lord be with you and your family at this time of saying good by for now to your dear Grandma.
Josephine.
Ok, I'm wanting to plant somethings around my grandparents graves. I know they aren't here but it will be a lasting tribute to them both. I need some ideas. The cemetary is a very old one in Kennard, Tx (by Crockett, zone 8a), and my grandmother's siblings and parents are buried there as well. I'm thinking 2 small evergreen trees, 2 evergreen shrubs and some bulbs. They need to be very hardy/xeric and maintenance free (we go once a year to do landscape work in May, but it is mowed all year) blooms on the trees and shrubs would be a bonus. Any ideas?
You could plant Carolina Cherry laurel and Yaupon Holly, they are both hardy, evergreen and have small flowers an berries. As for the bulbs some Paper white Narcisus might work.
Josephine.
Bless you Bronc, that is a wonderful tribute to your grandma.
Here are some ideas.
Rosemary-very xeric, wonderful fragrance, blooms, and low maintenance. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/170/
Knockout roses (seen them flourish with zero maintenance)- very carefree, continuously in bloom, xeric after first year. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/268/
Frostweed, you wouldn't believe what is already growing at the foot of their graves.....a Carolina Cherry Laurel! I never knew what it was before you told me about it.

God is always ahead of us.....
Well, that is just wonderful, I hope it will grow and be beautiful.
It is beautiful, Josephine!
Ain't it funny how the storms just pop up out of nowhere?

Lou, are we still on for Saturday's bonfire? Mitch is coming
I didn't know you had confirmed. Would love to. Great-granddaughter's first birthday is today. We are keeping her. Party is at 4:00PM Saturday but doubt it will last long. Since we are the most senior, we won't have to clean up. lol What time and where?
Great! 7:00 in Waxahachie. I'll Dmail you directions.
Well I found the parking lot better late then never *S*
Bronc my condolences to you and your family, I'm sure she is missed on earth but as you said she is walking in the garden now with God and family there. She will always be alive in your heart.
Collin prayers for your grandmother and family also.
Lou you have a birthday at your house today? funny today is DH's birthday ..we went to the "East Texas State Fair" as they signs call it. WOW what a shock compared to the Boone county fair back in Illinois.
It is small more like a carnival to me with food all the way down the middle, but we can at least say we went.
We went to Chamblees today just to check it out ...yes I did walk out with 2 rose bushes. one is called Bengal Tiger an orange/yellow/red mixture bloom and fragrant and the other one is an earth kind Belinda's Dream.
The guy that helped said if I had any questions to give him a call.
He even does landscape consulting but charges I think he said $35 an hour and Bluemoon $50 a hour.
I am hoping the guy from the extension office calls and can come out. For now hubby is "happy" working on getting the fallen trees pulled out of areas and cut up to burn ....which I chuckled when I saw the Bon fire posts we had a heck of a good one going earlier this week when he burnt up all the rotten pine wood he found out back.
I had told him we needed hot dogs and to make smores but he didn't take me up on the idea.
I have convinced him we have to have a compost pile ( or two) in order to be able to get things to grow and flourish. So the lattice that was behind the house dividing the bamboo and back acreage from the house is going to be used to make the "boxed areas" for the piles.
So I am guessing I need something to put in it to get it "started" with the grass clippings, pine needles, leaves, paper/cardboard...do I use molasses?
anyway I think I am going to start looking around at software I can use on the computer for landscaping and play around to figure out what to put where.
Might not be what you are looking for but Better Homes and Gardens .com has landscape software for free. I haven't used it so can't really say. Might try Southern Living .com, too.
Well, our baby girl was a year old today. How time passes....
Glad you are getting acquainted with your new state and most of all hope you are feeling welcome.
LouC
I was just reading reviews on landscaping software and better homes and gardens has one that is suppose to be pretty good you can put in your own pictures to use in it.
It was nice to do a little looking around today instead of staying home and working in the yard..which is limited *sigh* to what I can do until the PI stuff is gone.
About all I can do is stuff near the house and that is limited for now other then sitting in here and playing on the computer or sitting in the living room with the blanket stretched out with wisteria vines to clean off and make baskets. lol
Any body have a magic wand or can wiggle your nose and make it go away for me???
Does this mean that DH is not allergic to PI?
Yep it does he has not had any problem what so ever being out there..BUT he knows now since I went and got a shot and meds to get it kicked plus now this week I have a few more lil spots showing up that he can not mow if I am outside with him and I can not go into the brush where there are vines.
My poor arms and hands are so dry from soaking them in Cornstarch or Epsom's salts and using the calagel for the itching and drying it up.
I chewed on him the other day when I went out to help him pull a log out ..I was in the blazer (we used it to pull the log out) and he rode the mower up there, which is fine but dang if he didn't put the blade down and start mowing as I was driving out there I ran the windows up fast and sat there waiting for him to stop and reminded him what can happen.
He already knows I am not sleeping good at nite when I itch ...I sit up and work on the vines for baskets cleaning them off or make a basket cause I know once I hit the bed I will itch unless I "passout"
of course keep in mind when I was working back in Illinois I had 2 jobs one at the golf course kitchen which would be from 9am - 10 pm on some days with maybe 1 day off a week and then cleaned a bar 3 nights a week too so not sleeping 6-8 hours a night is not unusual for me.
I have been telling him from the start of the break out that he can't mow in the vines and stuff if I am out there too. the dang stuff can land on you in the dust and still get ya.
Mibus, thanks for the well wishes. I hope you get rid of that stuff soon.
me too I just called and made an apt with a dermatologist ...woke up this morning and dang if it isn't between fingers now and on the top of fingers
as I have it on my hands now and cant work with food.
no work, no pay, no insurance not good for a sous chef. :(
OH NO! Bless your heart.
Here Phyllis, I hope this helps
http://poisonivy.aesir.com/cures.html
thanks bronc I was at the same page last night.
I've been doing
tecnu skin cleaner 3 x a day
corn starch soaks
Epsom's salts soaks
alcohol straight from the bottle dabbled on with cotton balls
dish detergent
baking soda soak and made a paste
salt
drinking OJ and taking extra C tablets
Making sure I am taking a vitamin supplement cause I know I don't eat right lol
Hot as I can stand water
Bleach
using a lil bleach in all the wash
so again today I am doing laundry and wiping things down
and will be staying inside playing with wisteria vines I guess...which by the way I have thought of them being part of the problem but if that was the case my hands would be soo swollen all the time and I put them in water, bring it to a boil with a lil bleach in it for stripping the outside off.
How miserable!! The best thing I've found for relief from poison ivy, poison oak, fire ant bites, and mosquito bites and shingles is tea tree oil. You can apply it directly with a cotton ball or you can add some to your bath water and soak in it. You can usually find tea tree oil in the vitamin/supplement section of Wal-Mart or at a pharmacy or health food store. It comes in a little brown bottle. Works great!
Stephanie
yeah Stephanie tea tree is good to and with where I work we have the spa right next door so when I first started with it we got a bottle and brought over for the spa. It did help with the itching for about 3 days then it didn't do anything.
the dermatologist put me on a topical cream Temovate 0.05% and they gave me a generic version clobetasol
twice a day for 14 days
the prednisone helped start healing but it just wasn't long enough or strong enough and instead of pills or a shot she thought this would be better plus I have one refil I cna get so it will last me longer then 2 wks if I need more.
God love your heart. If and when I ever have this problem again I will know who to come to for help. Sooo Sorry that you are becoming an expert on PI. What does the doc say about the possibility of the wisteria being contaminated? I would say strong......
Will pray that you are healed very soon.
didn't have a thing to say on the wisteria, but thought the boiling with a lil bleach was a good idea.
the rest of this week is gonna be fun at work we have a wedding reception or maybe the wedding too not sure Saturday I think it is and prep to be done for it so lucky me will be wearing gloves not just when working with food but everything the whole time I am there.
