Noticed on some other forums they have a Parking Lot. After looking around it seems to be a place to just meet and chat about whatever one has one their minds. Anyone interested?
Parking Lot
Remembering Sept 11th. Enjoy every day and live life to the fullest. Let people know how much you appreciate and love them. Make the world a better place.
So true. Life is a LOT SHORTER than we tend to think. Make the most of everyday. One thing we cannot ever recover is a minute of our lives....once gone...it is gone....
Things to enjoy this week and month. Cooler weather, football, State Fair, turkey legs, corn dogs, fall rose blooms, girl scout cookies, green grass, sweet tea on the porch, walking with the family, barbecues, fall blooming perennials........
....bonfires!!........
Bronc, you must be kin to my DH. That is his delight.....I tease that he is a pyromaniac.
Collin, second your list......
I like bonfires on a crisp night. It's a good reason to have company and drink beer!!
second that. We are only about 14-15 miles from you and Mitch is in between...maybe, sometime......
Oh heck yeah!!
gotta go.....DH's birthday today and we are going to Lake Tawakoni to get his 90 year old mother and take her to lunch. See ya' later
camping, roasting marshmallows.....
aww...I want to sit around a bonfire! What sweet memories sitting around them in the fall in the Hill Country while attending college at Texas State in San Marcos. I can still smell pinon and cedar on a crispy night. :):) Lots of friends, lots of flannel...and lots of talk about life. :) Hey, lets have a DG bonfire this Fall....lol
Melanie
Just tell me where.....I live in the middle of city that wouldn't stand for it....but I will be willing to find a place.....
I miss the bonfire at Tx A&M before the tu game.:) And of course the march-in before the game... and the game.:)
Bonfires are fun, but what I miss is the smell of
burning leaves in the autumn. It was so satisfying
to rake the darned things up, throw them in a metal
trash can and then set them on fire. What a wonderful
smell - I really miss that.
When we were at Lake Tawakoni today I could smell burning leaves. I guess they don't have ordinances like we must have in the city. Brought back lots of memories.
Oh, boy, LouC, do I ever envy you ! Maybe when
the leaves turn a bit, I will put some in a coffee can
on the patio and just sit there and inhale :o)

We have a patio "what cha callit" to burn wood in. Our son gave it to us for Christmas. Have to be careful because it causes lots of sparks. One time almost caused a fire on our deck. Mahnot, if we find a place for a legal, careful fire....you will most certainly be included.......and anyone else that wants to.
(oooowwwweee, hope we aren't getting a bunch of pyromaniacs together....hahaha)
Thanks to this thread, I have been inspired to take my four year old camping this weekend. She is really excited to make smores and look at the stars.
Lou, I'll come - thanks - and I'll bring my wooden matches :o)
Oh gosh, Colin. My "children" are 44 and 41 years old. Have spent 41 years in one kind of RV or another......must have worked because that is their passion with their children.
Daughter is 44 and has a granddaughter that will be a year old this month.....they take her on their barge in her playpen.....deja vous. My son has a horse trailer for 4 horses. In the front of trailer is quarters for 4 plus a small kitchen. We still have a 35' Pace Arrow Motorhome that we don't use very often. Occasionally go with the kids and relive the great times we all had camping.....really no comparison.
Uh....overlook the fact that I am a greatgrandmother.....must be some sort of mathematical mistake there...
Hey, that's a lively cutie you've got there, Lou.
Adorable.
Just as she was saying "Hidee". AAAAWWW. Now don't we all have a cutie somewhere.
Let's see yours.
I've got a new chiminella (sp?) on the back patio and can't wait to use it with my mesquite and pinon logs. Mmmm....wonderful smell....
I miss that burning leaf smell too from when I lived in Massachusetts. Even tho they have strict ordinances, folks still seemed to burn autumn leaves in some areas. :)
Melanie
We bought one of those cast iron chimineas at Home Depot and placed it on the edge of our covered back porch. No problem with the heat (we have vinyl siding and the porch ceiling is vinyl), but the smoke went right up into the tiny vent holes, filled the attic, and set off the smoke detectors. They are wired so that if one goes off, they all go off on both floors. The cats screeched mightlily, we turned on the ceiling fans and opened doors and windows, and finally all the noise subsided.
Now the chiminea is on the grass with a piece of chimney pipe taking the smoke well above the porch ceiling. It's wonderful, though, on a fall evening to sit and watch the flames crackle, smell the mesquite burning, and absorb the warmth. Sometimes we grill sausage links on it and eat outside on the porch. I can hardly wait for cold weather and a fire in the fireplace. That and homemade soup and flannel shirts are absolutely all I like about winter!
lol...I hear ya about flannel and chimineas (correct spelling, lol) I love coming home from work on a cold day, getting into sweat pants and my favorite OLD LLBean red flannel shirt. *sigh* pure heaven... :)
Melanie
I was a Spanish teacher. :>)
lol....aha!
aaaaaahhhhhhh
I've got the brush, and I've got the place, I'm thinkin' Oct. 6th......who's interested?
Oh Bronc! We will be in Salado. 8 couples go to a B&B every 1st weekend of Oct......the guys play golf and the ladies...SHOP! This is our 11th year. What's cookin' the next weekend?
Christi Lou
I'm open for the 13th.
Sounds good to me.
I'll be in Chicago, visiting with my grandson !
I wouldn't trade that for a personal visit with Santa Claus :o)
Fully understand that. Well, back to square one, Bronc.
Sept. 29th?
ok here.
Chris
My schedule could change at any moment. My grandmother is dying. A week ago, she was totally independent, but last Thursday she went to the hospital because she wasn't eating and she was in extreme pain. Earlier this year she had her uterus removed because it was ate up with cancer. Well, they found out it has spread to her colon and liver. It was blocking her colon which is why she wasn't eating (no outlet) and they did surgery on Sunday and remove a large portion of it, but they said it's to far gone to stop. At 87, she couldn't handle radiation treatment. They've given her weeks, maybe 2-3 months to live. I was at her house last night, and she is unconcious and very frail looking. I couldn't stand to see her in that condition! Hospice is caring for her along with my sister who is a hospice nurse herself. She is the only grandmother I've ever known and the best grandmother a person could ask for. She told me last Thursday that she is ready to go home and see Jesus, and my Papaw, and her brothers and sisters, and her mom and dad. Sorry for venting this on all of you, but I just want you all to know that if I have to cancel any of our plans (even the swap) it's only because I truly have to.
Bronc, we are all with you. This is a family of sorts and it has almost come to the point where when one of us is cut, we all bleed. Will be praying for each family member as you go through this transition. It is a given that family is first under all circumstances. God bless you. There is a prayer forum, in fact, should you feel the need.
