SPRING HILL NURSERIES, BAD IDEA...

Tunkhannock, PA

THIS IS THE LATEST EMAIL I JUST SENT TO SPRINGHILL. I will now post on gardenwatchdog.com!

Attn: Sue Hall
Attn: Supervisor at Spring Hill Nursery

Sept. 10, 2007

I received your letter stating that you cannot and will not accept future orders from me.
My name is Rosanna ************* ********************
Old account # 29278147.
New account # 31522011.

I have not yet received my $44.99 check yet. Are you going to apply that to the order 72401322400? I just want the check, forget the order.

I have been investigating your Lifetime Guarantee with other experienced gardeners across the county. I hear that your company has also treated other customers the same way I am being treated. I am being accused of KILLING plants that were received in very poor condition from your company. I also hear that your company was bought out by another company. The word is out that alot of people are displeased with Spring Hill Nurseries lately. I was advised to post this information on Gardenwatchdog.com about the treatment I am receiving from your company as well as many other gardeners across the country.

I run my own business and I would never treat a customer the way you are treating me, insinuating that I killed the plants or am lying about the poor condition they were received in in the first place. Check your records and see if you still have the photos that I sent to you from the previous orders.

It is a matter of principal now. LIFETIME GUARANTEE, no questions asked, must apply to something else. This is false advertising and people should know this.
I will expect a check in the amount of $44.99 and you can keep your plants!
I am done with your company.

Spring Hill does indeed stink. I have not had good look with them either, so I no longer order from them. It's not even worth my time to get replacement plants because they usually die too. I order most of my live plants from Bluestone Perennials now and have never had a problem....not one has died on me from them....not one.

Boo, if they don't give you satisfaction after you call them, tell them you are going to go to the local news station. Most of them have someone who will help you with a beef agains't a vendor, workman, etc. this may get them going in the right direction.Good Luck!

Hey boo Let them know you will be writing a scathing report on Gardenwatchdog about their lack of pricipples and honest customer service. A lot of our gardening buddies are guided by that when making online purchases. There's a link to that site on the boards to the left.

Why do they think they arrived dead. You didn't make the mistake..They did. If they arrived dead they owe you new plants. Plain and simple. Let me get this straight..."They won't send you anymore plants because they are all dead upon arrival." WE garantee your plants to arrive in dead condition but we replace any dead plants.

Let them know they are not dealing with a novice gardener... Maybe send some pics of your garden too. Hope it all works out. I stopped ordering from them once they and other's were bought out by another nursery.

THeir plants were awful ..D.O.A. Just my opinion. ---MM.

Should I say more?

I, too, have had problems with them. More than half of what I've ordered has died within a day or two and the others have struggled until I can baby them into health or they die a month or so later.

I had some things replaced but have not been satisfied with the replacements either. Also, some orders of mine were cancelled without reason or them telling me. I had to DEMAND my money as well. I threatened them with a law suit and they responded with DOUBLE my money and a promise to send what I had ordered without payment.

One year later...? I have not received any plants from them and I don't care. There are plenty of reputable places to get what you want and they don't treat people this way.

Kwanjin,
I hope the word gets out about this company. I am now waiting for my $44.62 check from them. They said they sent it out. I told them if I don't receive it I am calling the local news channel and I am going to post it on U Tube~!

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

All I can say is Garden Watchdog is worth it's weight in gold!!!

I hope you get your check. I too do not recieve any more tiny dying plants from them, and I quit them years ago.

(Zone 7a)

YouTube will get some attention! I hope you told them that! lol And I found Dave's from gardenwatchdog! Worth it's weight in gold? Absolutely!

I will put it on You Tube!!!!! We just can't sit back and take it from these companies anymore.

Last year I bought a clematis that was supposed to be a crimson star... Large and bright red...
Ya I have a totally different variety, and its a nice burgandish purple! Made me so mad, I specifically wanted bright red.
They wouldn't replace it either.

May not be a bad idea to copy that letter to consumer affairs as well. I had trouble with a gym membership ( I moved out of the country and they claimed I was lying even though I sent the proof). I sent them a letter and cc'd to consumer affairs as well as their local congress person. They have since stopped sending threatening letters. I had done my research like you did and found lots of similar complaints pop up and even a website that detailed who I should complain to. Sorry I couldn't tell the website as this was a few years ago but it seems to have worked. Good luck getting your check back.

I am still waiting for the check as of today. I am not going to let this slide!!!
I just heard that Breck's is another lousy company. One of my garden friends had the same thing happen to her with that company!

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

You may be interested to know that Breck's and Spring Hill are affiliated with 6 other companies, including Garden's Alive and Michigan Bulb. http://davesgarden.com/products/gwd/c/146/ Poor customer service seems to be typical with most, if not all, of the affiliates.

Shenandoah Valley, VA

For goodness sakes check the Garden Watchdog. Springhill, Brecks, Gurneys, Michigan Bulb and several others are all owned by the same company.

For some unknown reason, the entire list of vendors owned by this company are listed on some their Garden Watchdog pages but not on others.

It's awfully easy to check any vendor at watchdog before ordering and getting burned.

(Zone 7a)

Some of us found gardenwatchdog AFTER we had trouble with them. Discovering DG is a perk.

Dear Staff......Received your catalog in the mail and decided to order some products from you.....as with other catalogs
I receive, I always check Davesgarden.com for ratings....
most serious gardens seem to use Davesgarden.com for
references......am glad I checked out your company.....
will channel my order to a company with less negatives....
too bad, your company seems to have a lot of nice products.......

I need to order my sweetpotato plants and some seeds but hesitate because of the dishonest companies. Any suggestions on a good mail order company? Betty

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I would check Garden Watchdog http://davesgarden.com/products/gwd/ , you can search by category so look for categories about vegetables or the sort of seeds you're looking for. You can ask it to sort the companies by rating, so that way the best ones will show up on top.

Tuscaloosa, AL(Zone 7b)

ecrane3,

Thank you for much for pointing out that GW can be searched by category. I didn't know that. Had never looked waaaaay down at the bottom of the page before.

Woah, thank-you for this timely post (orderin' time!).

I too will not order from Spring Hill Nursery, neither from the other affiliated companies. I have had wrong plants sent to me, not to mentioned plants half dead and even the plants they did replace it with wasn't in any better shape either.

Go to the Better Business Bureau online and report them. I bet they already have claims against them.

My favorite place to buy seeds and plants is Parks Seeds for both. They are online at www.parkseed.com

Save your receipts and order number, although they keep track online for you, and they will gladly replace plants. I have ordered from them for years.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Admin note: We provide the Garden Watchdog for customers to review their mail order experiences (hopefully good, but also the not-so-good) for the benefit of other gardeners and companies.

We strongly discourage threads like this for two reasons:

1) Their effectiveness is short-lived - as threads become old, they drift down to the bottom of the stack, where they aren't likely to be found by someone interested in your opinon; and

2) Our policy prohibits vendors from promoting themselves so if they happen to discover your opinions in a thread, they cannot respond to your comments. Within the Garden Watchdog, they are notified of your feedback, and they can respond if they feel it's necessary.
