i have that dmail thing too
sowing seeds now? need someones - help pretty please!
If you're planning to start them indoors and keep them indoors (or in a greenhouse) for the winter, then you can start them now, but if you're planning to start them outdoors, at least for the lavender I'd wait until spring, little lavender seedlings won't make it through your winter outside. I don't know delphiniums well enough to know if they would or not.
Ecrane,
What about the lavender in zone 7b, Alabama. Any idea?
Thanks,
Traci
I'm honestly not sure. For janemarierose since she's in the coldest zone that full grown lavenders will be hardy, I know for sure seedlings won't make it through the winter. But for you I don't know, personally I wouldn't take the chance of leaving them outside for the winter unless they are pretty good size before you get cold weather, but if they're decent size then they may do OK. If you don't want to take any chances though, I'd keep the seedlings indoors for the winter or start them in the spring.
Thanks Ecrane. I am just excited about lining my sidewalk with it and I thought I could get a jumpstart. Once again, gardening is patience and patience is gardening. I will wait for the summer or grow indoors. Just started my set up. Yeah!
Patience is a good thing, if you have it. I want them in the ground and up the next day. I have to tie myself up to do it right and not mess up.
I initally learned patience from moving to Birmingham and having traffic jams. Before this I had none. Now I have doubled this effort by starting to garden. Where is Jeanie when you need her? I have resigned myself to the fact that it is not instantaneous, however, I am about to see if any of the seeds I have purchased can be grown and planted before winter. lol. I have the patience to wait on the things I cannot change, but not on the things I can.
