I live in zona 8a. I think my tomatoes are waiting for the cool down here in Tucson, AZ. When is the latest I can expect to harvest tomatoes? I have loads of flower buds now, but with the heat, I only gathered 6 cherry tomatoes all year long and most buds don't even bloom. I'm hoping that with cooler temps around the corner, my plants will kick into action.
When is the latest you harvested tomatoes?
You can expect your tomatoes to start setting fruit soon. They do not like the heat at all. How long you will be able to harvest depends on the weather this fall. Cherry tomatoes produce longer than others.
Growingup, I am usually picking tomatoes until whenever our first freeze hits. Some year I hope to do TLTs (turkey lettuce and tomato sandwiches) for Thanksgiving! :) I also pick any that are full-grown but still green and let them ripen in the garage--still beats grocery store hands down, and they freeze just fine for sauces etc.
I'm in Zone 7A Oklahoma. I am wondering the same question for my part of the country. Is tomato season almost over here?
