Calliandra Tweedii as houseplant

North Providence, RI

Has anyone had any experience with Calliandra Tweedii as a houseplant? I have only found info on outside garden uses. Mine is just a babe and is doing well. Just want to know how best to keep it happy and healthy indoors. Thanks!

I think this is considered a landscape plant but maybe you could grow it indoors in a sunny window, I'm not really sure. They do get pretty tall, but you should be able to prune it to keep it within bounds!

Thanks! I did look it up in Dave's and it showed it outside and huge. It's hard to imagine it like that, because mine is such a tiny, delicate thing. I guess it will be an interesting process to watch what happens.

Donna, keep us all posted as to how this plant does for you inside!

Will do.

Just a quick update on my plant. It likes to be watered frequently and will tell me when it is thirsty by curling up its leaves. The tweedii acts like a Sensitive Plant by curling up its leaves at night. The plant is doing very well in my south window, but no flowers yet. The foliage during the daylight hours is feathery and delicate. It is one of my favorites.

I think I read that they bloom late winter or early spring so maybe you will get blooms before next summer!
