OMG....I can't wait now until mine blooms. Beautiful flowers and "mango ice cream smell...heaven!!
September Blooms
Mark, now see what you've done. You have Marcy drooling on her computer screen!!!! (LOL) Just kidding Marcy,I have the pant as well but no flowers on it yet. I just got it from DL last year and it has finally begun to grow, and rather quickly at that!!
Nice pic MM.
dmichael
Well, I was drooling over your praetorii blooms as well. I lost mine last winter, but when it was doing well, it bloomed a lot too and they were soooo lovely. I am also seething with envy over your linearis plants and wish our Lowes or HD would get EA plants, but they never do. We did have an Armstrong Nursery that got a few DS-70s in last June from EA, but when I talked to the "plant-order guy", he said they were not doing business with them anymore. DARN.
S. Calif. justs plain sucks when it comes to any hoya finds in local stores or nurserys.
Mulletman,
I just invested in 1000 watts worth of HO T-5 florescent fixtures; we'll have to compare notes on how our plants fare under these lights. Pot growers seem to make out really well with them. Right now I'm only using about 220 watts worth, because I'm pretty stingy with the electricity ( 16.3 cents/KWH), and most of my plants are small, and for now I've found a place to put most of them. Eventually I plan on using all of the lights, because in VT, when you live between two mountains, there just is not enough light to go around especially in the winter.
Doug
Marcy, you dont even want ot know the drama I had to go through to get those 2 linearis plants. One day when I have about an hour to kill i'll have to give you a call!!!!
Before putting myself through an experience like that again,i'd rather be spanked with red hot razor wire and then have salt and lemon juice thrown into the cuts!!!! Well not really!!! but they surely put me through more of a hassle than I ever thought it would be.
dmichael
Gee David, sooo dramatically graphic. HaHaHa - you are too funny.
S
dlambii, Hmmmmm.... that could be arranged - I know people (LOL).
:-)
High Five David that is really an awesome plant. You have really been getting some treasures :)
Mulletman that is a really beautiful bloom, congrats, love those yellows.
Christina your fungii is beautiful as ever, and I am so jealous. This is one hoya I cannot get to bloom.
Tami I recently moved all of my hoyas into the big gh and they have all gone wild. Hoyas like fungii which have sat for almost 3 years are loaded with peduncles but no buds or flowers are about to bloom. In fact fungii has at least a dozen pedunlces on it right now in various staged of bud formation with some that should be open today.
dmichael
What is the difference (besides size) between the BIG greenhouse and the smaller one where they were before? More light?
Marcy
Marcy, there is'nt that big of a difference in the amount of light between the 2 throguh the big one allows more light in from the front as the end panels are clear as opposed to opaque like on the other one.
I think it may be the wide open space and more airflow that is helping to bring them into bloom now. Even though I kept high velocity air movers going in the other gh it just wasnt open enough. The big gh has sides that roll up to about 6ft from the ground and has even larger high velocity fans and more of them!!!
I really dont know what is causing them to grow and bloom better in the big gh but they do so that is where they shall remain.
dmichael
Boo Hoo another fungii. I wish I could figure out why mine wont bloom. Beautiful pictues and blooms blue eyes.
So David do you think your fungii is receiving more light than it was. Mine has at least 20 peduncles, but they just will not bloom. I guess I will have to threated her...
Tami,
I'm not so sure that it is receiving any more light than it was in the other gh. When I moved the hoyas to the big house I also took the shade cloth from the smaller gh and put it over top of the existing shade cloth that was already on the big gh.
All 3 of my gh's are in a wide open area with no trees around which means sun all day long and so even with a double layer of shade cloth on that house it still gets quite bright in there from about 11am until late afternoon but I wouldn't say it is any brighter where it is now than where I had the plant before
I'm leaning towards better airflow around the entire plant from all directions as being the force thats driving them to bloom now. My hindu rope and 2 NOID carnosa plants have always hung in that particular gh and always had tons of flowers on them that's what makes me think that it's the airflow around the plants that's causing them to bloom.
That fungii plant has sat in the other gh now for almost 3 years and I saw it bloom 1 time and not even with a full umble then, even though like your plant it was always loaded with peduncles. I noticed within 2 weeks of my moving them to their new location that buds had already begun to form on those peduncles and not just on one but on all of them and some of them should be open today.
dmichael
This is only my second hoya to bloom so I'm not up to any of the rest of your standards!! Such gorgeous blooms you all have!
But I think that this h blashernazie is so delicate and beautiful and I thank Carol for sending the plant to me with a peduncle on it!
I can honestly say that this bloom looks much better in the picture than in person as you can see all the nuances in the picture that are hard to discern with the naked eye. Or else I need much stronger glasses :)))) I didn't notice any fragrance at all...
~Brenda
David, I will have to try putting the plant outside next year. It's much to big to go in my GH, not that it is a huge plant, it's that the GH is much to small. I did move it into the Garden Tub in the bathroom for a little more light with a window open where it could catch alot of breeze, but I had to move alot of hoya's in and had to move it to a west facing bedroom, where it has been most of it's life. I'm going to take it out today and repot and Bayer it and just have a nice conversation with her. Who knows she may catch a nice breeze when I fling her down into the creek. :O
Christine congrats on your bloom, they are the sweetest blooms and the best smelling. There still one of my favorites.
Thanks Tami, I'd say a cross between butter and butterscotch - a wow fragrance from a flower that's for sure!
Brenda, that shot is incredible and the flowers are so pretty! I can't wait for mine to bloom. H.blashernazie is a hoya that bought simply because the name is so cool...lol...
C.
Brenda that is marvelous, congratulations on your bloom, High Five !!!! My little blashernazie is just a teen ager, and no peduncles yet. You did very well as I heard this one likes to blast it's buds alot. Good growind :)
Christine, I had to take my hussy out of the kitchen area, everytime I smelt it I started to crave cake !!
Hey TamiF,
Please post a picture of your fungii. I think this one has to be my favorite. Mines has grown so much and I love the huge leaves with all the veining.
Her she is all repotted and ready for winter. I did find when I pulled it out of the bigger pot that the roots had gone down into the sand that keeps it up. Kind of hard to explain without a picture. Mine threw off some pretty large leaves this spring to. I think it would be one of my favorites if the darn thing would bloom just once so I could see some big ole blooms.
C...I have yet to buy a hoya just for the name! LOL Carol had included a picture of an h. blashernaize bloom with one of her posts and it sent me running to her site to find the plant!! It was a huge bonus to have it come with peduncle and then proceed to bud up and bloom for me!
TamiF I'm glad I didn't know about the bud blasting thing or I would have been more nervous about seeing that bloom! I love the yellow and for a full week the buds just looked like drops of butter hanging there.
My new little fungi has three leaves....gonna be awhile before it looks anything like yours! That plant is beautiful!

Wow! Yup! Have to say this is my favorite. Very beautiful TamiF. How old is your plant?
Anticipation makes those blooms worth waiting for! You are definitely doing something right, it looks healthy! It will bloom for you. Maybe it's just waiting for all the peduncles to form and then you will get that show worth waiting for. (Positive thought) ;0)
Tami - that is a beautiful plant!!
Karen
Tami, that really is a very nicely grown and trained plant. Is that an iron topiary ball? Beautiful!
Brenda they grow really fast, it will be a nice plant in no time at all. Sounds like you may have the growing touch for blashernazie, and it may not blast it buds. You must be a very good hoya mom.
Teresa the plant is 5 years old. I don't know what I am doing wrong with this one, but I def. am keeping postive thoughts on lots of gorgeous blooms.
Mark, yes it is a iron topiary ball, the bigger one's do really well on them. I wish I would of done a couple of others this way as the bamboo hoops are broken towards the bottom and now the plants are really unstable. Looks like I will have the pleasure of untwining soon. Urgh, not my favorite pass time.
Here is a pubicalyx - carnosa mix on a double topiary.
Edited to say thank you Karen and everyone for your compliments !!
Any tips on how to get this one to bloom would be much appreciated..

Gorgeous, Gorgeous blooms!!!!! I just can not wait until more of mine will be big enough to bloom..... and to think they could do it continuously?? Amazing!
~Brenda
Aaaaah ... I'm in Hoya Heaven on this thread! Beautiful Plants all!
I'll be looking at this thread for reference for years!
I keep looking and adding to my "Wish" list!
A mushroom walks into a bar and asks the bartender for a drink.
The bartender states "We don't serve your kind in here!"
The mushroom says "Why not? I'm a fun guy."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, here's another shot of my "fun guy". It's not opened yet but I think it's still worth being seen.
