September Blooms

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Hillls...yes, it is the same 0557 and 557. It is a good grower, hard cardboardy like leaves full of speckles....dark vine.

Carol

Carol, Is the mystery plant a smeller? It looks like it could be. That schneii is beautiful. Love your pics.

Beautiful! LOVE that campanulata!

I have been enjoying everyone's September blooms so much. I bought this Obovata from Christine Burton on ebay 4.25.07 or so as a 6 inch hanging basket, and its first bloom opened today. I am so excited. I wanted to show everyone. I have one more bud to open on it. It has gotten so huge.
Katie
I am not the great photographer the rest of you are. I think it's the camera. lol. Probably me.

Gorgeous picture, Katie - and bloom!!

Your picture is better than most of mine and I have expensive cameras so I KNOW it's me. Ha Ha. Beautiful bloom. I think obovata has one of the loveliest flowers and is so generous with them.

Carol and Matildejune - those are some darned pretty blooms!!!

Chowchilla, CA(Zone 10a)

I just had three hoyas bloom in the last couple of nights, and I just managed to get photos of them. The first one, H. cominsii smelled (to me) rather horrid the first night (although the "scent" was not strong), but the second night it had a sweet melony smell to it - so it is back in my good graces (lol). It is a fantastic bloom!

Gorgeous shots all.
Ann, I really like that 0831. How does the plant do for you in CA?
Carol, great photo of dennisii. The round buds are almost as nice as the flowers. What sort of foliage does this one have?

San Francisco, CA

MsKitties, that hoyas from the philippines is absolutely to die for! If I could find that color comination in a scarf, I'd be the happiest man in san francisco! Did it come in the same shipment as Mr.Roy's mystery missing box?
Freddie

Chowchilla, CA(Zone 10a)

Freddie, you and me both!!! No, I purchased the IML0831 from Carol as a specimen plant.
Mark, the plant LOVES California! I have multiple peduncles in various stages of bud formation - this one is gonna be one heck of a bloomer!
Ann

New Caney, TX

Everybody's blooms are so pretty. Great shots of them too.

Tami

Thank you for comments on my bloom. And then Ms Kitty's - Oh, so beautiful!!!!!!!!!! I especially love the IML831sp.DMC1622 'Philippines' - which goes without saying - I had never heard of that one. Oh- such pretty blooms!!!!!!! Thanks for sharing them all of you.

Alright, enough with the fake usernames, already! Are we going to have to hear from one of each type of negative stereotype? So far we've had a redneck and an effeminate gay, what's next, a yiddish hoya grower? A mafia wife hoya aficionada? How about a black, lesbian, slam-poetess hoya grower?
Any other suggestions for our mysterious impersonator?

Philomath, OR

I'll bet there's a Nazi/white supremacist hoya horder. He/she distroys all the carnosas, much too common for an elite collector. Perhaps a one legged pirate! They could sail to Russia and find more hoyas! -

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

It says on Freddys page that it is 2:45AM where he is.... Mark, what time is it there in San Francisco...HUH???? So...who ever Freddy is, is using a computer in Europe. Gosh...the lengths people go thru!!!!

Let the bully alone - we don't HAVE to play with them!!!

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

If you point this out to Dave, I am sure he will do something about it if he can.

However, is it really necessary to pay this person the attention they are obviously seeking? I think it is childish and the best way to handle it is to not pay it any attention. Period.

Wonderful blooms MsKitty and Carol!

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Very well said, Kim...

Now, back to our regularly scheduled program.....

Prescott, AZ

Very pretty blooms everyone !! It is nice to see what IML 831 is going to look like, the colors are marvy.. I thought for sure my sp. sulawesi was going to be H. tomataensis, but I don't think so. What do you guys think

Thumbnail by TamiF
Philomath, OR

Oooh Tami, that is wonderful! I sure like it no matter what it is. God bless,-joanne

San Francisco, CA

Joanne, a hoya pirate is rather genius. MP could use "ARRGGGHHHH!! Ahoy!" several times in each post. Also, how about a stripper from Reno who grows hoyas in her spare time? She could be very creative and post about turning her pole into a crafty hoya stand.
Actually, I'm not bothered by it. Seems kind of funny, if a bit weird, so far.
Ann, I have a IML0831 but no peduncles as of yet!

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

......ARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH AHOYA... (sorry, the devil made me do it)

Tami...what do the leaves look like on your H. tomatoensis?

BTW...Ted Green tells me that the plant I had as H. sp. Sulawesi is NOT H. tomataensis as he had first told me. H. tomataensis does not have white sap.

Anyone confused yet.

Whitestone, NY(Zone 7a)

Ok..so I finally have some blooms to post! I don't think I had anything bloom in August (except for ever-blooming multiflora and lacunosa). My obscura has tons of peduncles but I've never seen it bloom, and I've had it for months...I thought it was an easy bloomer!

Here's H. lobbii that just opened. I think this is my favorite hoya bloom (that I've seen in person) so far...

Whitestone, NY(Zone 7a)

...And I was so excited to find that my H. carnosa 'Krimson Princess' was in bud! I bought the plant from EA a few months ago, and I was so shocked to see it bloom so fast...must be a really well established plant. This is my first carnosa that has set bud (if you don't count motoskei). I hope to show flower pics this month! H. motoskei is also close to blooming again...the smell is intoxicating! By the way, even though motoskei has been blooming (which must mean it's happy, it has been getting some yellowed leaves that drop off. Any suggestions?

Here's my carnosa KP buds:

Gabi - Nice pictures and blooms! I really like the lobbii - wish mine would bloom.....How do you grow yours?

Karen

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Gabi....GORgeous!!

Whitestone, NY(Zone 7a)

Thanks Karen and Carol :)

Karen,
I got the lobbii from Carol and it was already in bloom when I received it. Since then, this is the first time it bloomed while under my care...also, a new peduncle grew! Anyway, I treat it like I treat most of my other hoyas - I water when the soil is dry and keep it in eastern exposure. You'll love the blooms when you get them!

Gabi

Great Falls, MT(Zone 4a)

Gabi, your lobbii is wonderful!! I love that salmon color. Is it really that color in life, or is it a camera distortion? Beautiful flowers Ann! Glad to hear that cominsii doesn't really stink. I love, love, love the phillipines and the tomaensis - really need to look at bloom color.

Here is my H. montana. I have more coming on my kanyakumariana again too, so that should be exciting.

I'm not tired of seeing H waymaniae !! And the leaf is as pretty as the bloom, awesome!!

I have the smallest of a bloom starting on my H. cominsii, if it looks anything like MsKitty's when it opens I'll be thrilled!

H Montana is beautiful Sara! As are all the blooms posted here, surely something to aspire to for me!

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

OMG..I just noticed that H. polyneura is BLOOMING!!!!!!!!!!! This is a first...usually I kill it so fast it hasn't a chance. Pictures tomorrow...and they are gorgeous!!!!

C

San Francisco, CA

Brenda, the leaves are really great, each being a different combo of dark green, light green, silver and maroon.
Sara, how does montana smell?
