Anyone interested in a Round Robbin?

Waterville, VT(Zone 4b)

Nan,

I'm not related to anyone that I'm aware of in southwest WI. Its funny there used to be only a few people with my last name in the phone book here in VT and now there are a page and a half of them. I don't know most of them, and don't think I'm related, but apparently they are a prolific breed.

Yes, this was the first Round Robin I ever participated in as well, and I'm sure glad that I did it. I hope Mark has better luck with this box than his David Liddle order. I'm sure that misfortune can't happen again to the same person. So far, knock on wood, Priority Mail has worked flawlessly for this RR.

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

lol....well, just to let you know, the ones around here are all really good people!

Oh no! What happened to Mark's box from the DL order? I guess I missed that.
Let's hope all goes well.....crossing my fingers for that.

New Caney, TX

Nan,
What great finds for you too. LOL If I had taken all from the box that I didn't have, it would have been all but four. LOL I restrained myself well I thought but too I got some great Hoyas for the price of Postage. And after my last ebay experence with selling, it was better for my rooted hoyas to go in the box. Much lest trouble for sure. :-) This was my first RR as well and I have never understood how they worked. It was great and I thank everyone here.

Alrighty Hoya guys and gals, I'll use this posting to update the map as your RR makes its way through our 50 great states. Once the RR has reached it's final destination I'll post an image at the bottom of this thread as well.

It looks like a majority of you live in the Eastern United States. Is this RR going to make its way to Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, the Dakotas, or New Mexico? I know we've got a few members from AZ.

Mulletman,
I love the map thanks for spending the time to get it together so we can track the package.

Tami

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

MM...I responded to your d-mail about my location.

Oh, I didn't take all the ones that I didn't have, either....just those that appealed to me the most.......it took some 'restraint' to leave a couple of them in there, but I'm glad I did(Ü)
I regret that I didn't have much 'rooted' to enclose, but I did enclose several nice cuttings and one rooted plant.

I'm thrilled with my 'gifts' and very grateful to all involved.

One quick question, :), does the person on the end of the list get the rest of the box? Just wondering.... If I had participated, I probably would have wanted the whole box. :)

s,
It takes lots of self control when the box is in your presence. :-)

Tami

Philomath, OR

Susan, Yes, I end up with the box. Since I put 19 or 20 cuttings and plants in the box to begin with, I will keep up to 19 (Hello, my name is Joanne and I'm a hoya addict.... and a piggy too :~) If there are more than that in the box, I have offered one member who didn't get to participate, some of the rest. I will have to wait and see what the final number is. I will root any 'extras' and perhaps until we can come up with a contest or some other fun way to give them away. I don't plan on keeping extras for myself but want to share them with others who didn't participate or just have small collections. Whada' ya'll say bout that?:~) I'm open for sugestions....Please make sugestions!

thanks and God bless, -joanne

I got the box this afternoon!
I kept:
H. retusa
H. nummularoidies
H. cumingiana

Only one cutting needed to be replaced, they seem to be keeping really well.

The box will be off to Kim (blue eyes) on Monday.

Oh goody goody! I can't wait!

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Sounds like the Round Robin was ALOT of fun!!!! Sorry I missed it!

I have seen that there are a lot of misspellings of names...like H. lokerii (loherii?), H. pimentelliana.... I think it might be a good idea to keep the integrity of the names or you all will have a total cat's breakfast in the future. Just a thought....

Okay, the package went out this morning. Kim, look for it Wednesday.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

I'm keeping my eyes peeled!

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Well....I waited impatiently all day to come and home and find that the box did not arrive. Oh well.....hopefully it will be here tomorrow. However, if I cannot get it out on the same day tomorrow should I perhaps wait to mail it out or not? I hate the thought of it waiting an extra day in the mail (Sunday). Let me know what you guys think. I work all day at the lab so I don't really have the time to take care of it the same day.

Kim

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Ok....didn't get home until 4pm but the box has arrived! And I will repeat what everyone else has been saying....WOW! It is sooooo hard to choose! I will mail out tomorrow morning to bmedel. Now....to go back and think about what to keep....

:) Kim

Prescott, AZ

The box has really traveled along way since the last time I checked in. Great choices everyone.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Ok....sorry I have been away but I was sick this weekend and then also had a swap to go to which I felt ok at but then when I got home later I was wiped out. I kept 8...yes, I am a hoya piggy and proud of it...lol. I kept:

H. lacunosa speckled leaf
H. arnottiana
H. purpureo-fusca (replaces one I lost)
H. picta (replaces one I lost)
H. sp. tanna island (this one had no leaves left, I am trying to see what happens with just the stem)
H. inconspicua
H. kerrii hairy clone (always wanted this from Shoal Creek but they never had it in stock it seemed)
H. meliflua (replaces one I lost)

Only a couple cuttings needed some attention so I soaked then and trimmed then up. The tanna island was just a stem, the leaves had all yellowed and fallen off but there were some roots so I decided to keep it and give it a chance. Here's a pic of the loot.

That box of hoyas is sure traveling and it is only half way through it's journey. I can't wait to see what else is added to the box. This is so much fun watching it make its way through all these hoya addicts! LOL

Philomath, OR

Hey, we're half way there! Thanks everyone for getting the box back in the mail ASAP! With this many participants we need to keep this moving... and you have! Thanks.

Kim, thanks for freshening up the cuttings. I'm just drooling over some of the cuttings you kept! I got a purpuro-fusca in a RR with epiforums.com 2 springs ago. I cut it in two and potted it up. It sat there until this spring and now is growing like gang busters! It's one of my fave RR hoyas.

Those are some hoyas and the box is still packed full. Talk about variety. This is really a great way to share hoyas and get some new ones.

Macon, IL(Zone 5b)

Amazing!! This has been so much fun!

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

That is some list!!! I'm going to be haunting the post office for the RR box tomorrow, it should be there! I'm hoping the holiday today doesn't stall it an extra day.

~Brenda

I'm too busy kicking myself for not joining this RR to post much, but suffice it to say that if it goes around a second time, I'd REALLY love to be included! Looks like y'all are having so much fun with it! :o)

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Oh man, I didn't even think about today being a holiday! I am so sorry! I should probably have waited to mail it then. I have been sick all weekend and still am so I suppose that's why I didn't think about it. I checked the tracking and it still just says accepted at Bryan, TX. Of course, to me the tracking at the PO is worthless. I have had packages arrive that still said that online. I do hope everything is ok.

Kim

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

The tracking does seem to only come through after you have the box in your hand doesn't it? This is one of those holidays that so few think of it always catches you by surprise when the bank and PO is closed.

We are having good moderate weather here so the box is neither too hot or too cold (I figure it's in Boise) so I think things will be fine. No worries, feel better Kim!

~Brenda

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

Sorry to do this guys, but I'm gonna have to withdraw from the RR after all.
A combination of personal problems and a dying computer....
Brenda, if you'll just pull my label out of the pile and cross my name off the list when you get the box?
Then epiforums could just send it directly to TamiF instead of me.....
See Tami, that means you'll get it sooner...lol...
Sorry to be such a flake, but I don't know if I'll even have a computer day to day...
Maybe next time!
Sharon, feeling like a total jerk...

Philomath, OR

Sharon, DON'T feel bad. I hope we can do it again in the spring so more people can join. May be we can have 2 different ones going at the same time.... just a thought.

sitting here waiting to see what Brenda takes.... -joanne

Whitestone, NY(Zone 7a)

Joanne,

I think that's a great idea. If it's more than 20 people in the spring, we can break it up into 2 groups...1 group on the east coast and one on the west coast (or something like that).

I am just SO excited that the box has been moving along so well, and I can't wait to see what's in it!!! Have fun Brenda!

Gabi

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

The box arrived today!!

Several things need new paper towels to freshen them up and I'll pull out a couple (compacta and austaliaf) soft squishy thing all together. I can replace those as I have them. The ones in pots have been tossed willy nilly until no dirt is left in the pots, I'll see what I can do with them. My plan is to have this awesome box back to the post office and on it's way to AZ before the mail goes out at 3:00, but right now I have a lunch date to get to.

I'll post pictures of what I end up keeping.....

~Brenda

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

I'm so glad that it arrived today!

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

Whew, got the box turned around and headed for AZ by the skin of my teeth! The cuttings in the gallon zip loc bags with red writing on them were all in good shape and so with each of those I replaced the paper towel on the cut end with a fresh piece dampened with super thrive water and then wrapped each paper toweled end with glad wrap press and seal to keep in the moisture. A lot of the others had paper towels that were getting musty if not moldy and some cuttings were even slimy with dropped leaves etc. So every other cutting in the box received a super thrive rinse and a patting off. A trim if needed and then a new gallon ziploc, new paper towel on the end and press and seal. Each root ball also received a damp paper towel and press and seal so no more mess with them falling out of the pots! Everything left here looking fresh and ready to continue it's trip!

I replaced the compacta and the australis cuttings with new fresh ones. I kept seven cuttings or rooted plants and traded out for same (cutting or rooted plant) and as extras I kept the two Australis seedlings and the obscura seedling as they were not going to make it any further anyway. They are awfully yellow right now but I think they'll revive and make it here with me.

I was thrilled to get to trade out for so many things as my collection is small. I was so fortunate to have picked hoyas in my last two orders that were not in the box!!! Pictures and names to come when I get them potted up!

~Brenda

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Thank you for taking the time to do all that Brenda. I had a hard time getting it out at all on Friday so I didn't have time to replace bags and such. The australis and compacta were looking sorta bad when I had them, I had trimmed and soaked them but it must not have helped any. Unfortunately it has been quite warm here so if the box was traveling for an extended time in TX that might have contributed to some not doing well. Most of them looked great when I sent the box off.

Kim

Aberdeen, NC

I think everything is going so smooth on this RR and cuttings are really holding up well. With the variety of cuttings and plants in the box, there is a lot to choose from. When I look at the list that has been taken from the box, there are many hoyas that I don't have. This is such a wonderful way to add to a collection.

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

I'm sure they'll all need another going over once they reach AZ Kim! I had the time and the desire to be really picky going through them today and my DH will tell you I smell mustiness days before any normal human does. LOL So they just got a little extra TLC but they would have been fine without me I'm sure! Well except for that comapcta :)))

I haven't had time to re size my pictures yet but here is what I too!! :0)

H Lobbii
H Fungii
H Serpens
H cv Mathilde
H Purple Hawiian Pubicalyx
H Macrophylla
H Macgillivrayi

~Brenda

Whitestone, NY(Zone 7a)

Nice pickin' Brenda! And thanks for keeping the cuttings/plants in tip top shape! That was quite a job.

If you guys don't mind, when you re-send out the box can you just add in your posts who the box is going to next? This thread has gotten so long that it's almost impossible to find Joanne's post with the list of recipients! I try to find it everytime the box goes out to see if I might be "next in line" (if the person didn't say who it's going to), but it takes forever! Thanks :)

Can't wait to see pics Brenda!!

Prescott, AZ

Brenda, nice choices :) Thanks for the extra TLC you provided for the cuttings. I think the box should of been sent to Teresa in New Mexico though, did you just type it in wrong?

Whitestone, NY(Zone 7a)

Yes, I just looked at the list and you're right Tami....the box should be off to Winterhaven (Teresa) in New Mexico. Hopefully it was just a typo.

Philomath, OR

Brenda, Way to swap! Can't wait for the box to stop again!

BTW~ I am starting a new thread for this one. It will be "Round Robbin #2". Please post on it from now on. Thanks All and God bless. -joanne
